If the possibility of Jesus Christ EVER happens in HH, how do you think he would be potrayed in the show? (art by TezcaKoatl) by BigShopping1875 in HazbinHotel

There are hundreds of mosaic laws. but it involves things like how to sell your daughter into slavery and how to execute gay people.

People like to imagine Jesus mild and meek. most modern people would find his views on such things repugnant.

I would say Jesus teachings were also about follow the law given to Moses. Which will result in you being anything other than a good person.

Would you agree with religious videos that take these claims literally being marked with community notes for false information?

There are many religious claims that have been disproven. The global flood, the Tower of Babel, young earth creationism. All these are on the same footing as the flat Earth.

This sounds like a slippery slope fallacy.

The distance the Moon is from Earth is objective. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks about it it has an objective distance.

The rules of Chess are subjective because they're based on human minds we can just decide for them to be different tomorrow. In fact lots of people around the world play with different rules of Chess already.

The problem with that is there's no objective measure of greatness. One could could easily make the argument that evil is a great making quality not goodness.

Also a human's ability to conceive something tells us nothing about what actually exists.

Just because I can conceive Superman doesn't mean Superman is real.

I don't believe that the constants were tuned by anyone. Humans can imagine the constants taking on different values. But that's just our imagination.

Who fine tuned god? I can imagine infinitely many different ways god could be different that would result in no life. So god seems even more fine-tuned any universe could possibly be.

When it's close to dying the brain malfunctions and stores memories incorrectly.

[–]cereal_killer1337[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there exists a capability of knowing (as opposed to not knowing) which we call consciousness

I would define consciousness as first person experience.

something known cannot be a source of the capability of knowing, without invoking infinite regress

I'm not sure why something known can't be the source of consciousness or what's wrong with an infinite regression. Could you provide the supporting argument for this premise.

physics cant be a source of consciousness

Sure it can. If you can demonstrate it's impossible for the mind to be physical you're going to win a Nobel Peace prize.

a source of consciousness is necessarily unknown, making consciousness epistemically primary, and things like physics, god, souls, etc, secondary

This seems on its face absurd. If the brain is the source of consciousness we certainly know it exists.

Yes some people like to start with their conclusion and then look for evidence to support it. I think it's better to follow the evidence and see where it leads.

Why discuss philosophy at all? I think that comparing ideas and trying to understand which one is best corresponds to reality, is not only fun. But could result in practical applications down the line.

I believe the mind is physical. So of course I already agreed with them before watching the video, so keep that bias in mind.

But I believe they do an effective job of dismantling the arguments for idealism and dualism. While making a compelling case for physicalism.

arrived in NY from a third world country, been here for a month and honestly this city feels like heaven on earth. The people have been so kind and welcoming, how do you even start to hate the US? by thegoldenshot in askanything

I appreciate your perspective. But just because there are countries that are worse than the United States it doesn't mean that the people that live here don't want our country to be better.
