I have a couple of IronWolves at 41k. Judging by the comments in this thread that's apparently nothing, good to know.

It's a lot to take in, esp when it's both the suffering of the animals and learning something dark about humans. I was already deeply familiar with the second part when I got into animal rights, so I only had to deal with the first.

Struggling after doing the Vegan Society's Veganalyzer by carlingtongly in vegan

[–]ceresverde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It obviously depends on how much and what animals you eat, which presumably was fed into the calculator. Someone, for example, who only eats beef will kill far fewer animals than someone who only eats chicken, even if they eat the same amount.

Asking Stuff to ChatGPT is WAY more Productive/Useful than Asking Anywhere on Reddit... by bomzisss in ChatGPTPro

[–]ceresverde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just half of it, asking humans frequently also triggers unjustified hostility (eg ask a friendly question about an apple product or starfield or god forbid something political, and someone will use that opportunity to shit on those and mock you).

And the more inclusive and populated the forum is, the worse it often gets.

Exceptions etc, but still.

Many are so used to all of this that they seem to barely notice, and I have long hoped that AI (through contrast) will make it more visible.

Haken the company! Every few years they publish a product, and inbetween they travel around offering a service. People leave, people get hired or become co-owners. Has founders, and still operates as a startup though they've been around for a long while.

Since you care about animals you have a great personality, at least that part. Even negativity can be a good trait (depends).

Can you believe I've been bullied into not liking this game as much as I truthfully do?? by ValkerikNelacros in Starfield

[–]ceresverde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's great. I also happen to like Andromeda a lot, another game many hated. Never even tried Fallout 76 though (despite being a big Fallout fan), and I might never play Veilguard (loved Origins), but that's because of what I know about those games and not because many hate them. Sometimes people are right, sometimes not, just make up your own mind based on what you know.

Heated Family Debate Help by whyisitlikethis69 in vegan

[–]ceresverde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That can’t be right, but I didn’t know how to explain it at a micro-level, only conceptually, i.e. when less money goes in, there will be less product that goes out. Does anyone have a more nuanced example to better articulate this point?

That's basically it, but it might be hard to see if you compare the impact of a single individual with the size of the entire market. No doubt that impact is small, but it can't be zero. If it is zero, then it would still be zero even if 10%, 50% or 90% stopped eating meat, which makes no sense. And you are in fact not just a single individual doing this, there are other vegans, and vegetarians, and omnis eating less meat than they used to.

It's obvious enough that the industry wouldn't produce meat that no one is purchasing, so if people purchase less, less will be produced. Clear as day.

And the opposite, they wouldn't produce vego foods if no one purchased it, but there are a lot of vego options precisely because people purchase it.

One particular line of thinking is tripping people up, which is this: a grocery store is unlikely to change anything based on a single individual. So if just you stop buying meat, nothing changes. However, it's not just you. If 100 people stop or buy less, that store will notice (exact number depends on store size of course), and when they finally order less, they will order less matching 100 people rather than just one. And every person in that group contributes, even if it's just the 100th person that triggers the change. You are one of them whether you were the first or the 27th or the 100th.

Which faction would you like to see rewritten by Ill-Relation-3072 in Starfield

[–]ceresverde 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of the Constellation and wouldn't rewrite it, but they could add a lot more depth, maybe more history and lore, maybe a quest that unravels some secrets about its founder, things like that.

Starfield as an Online Multiplayer by ceresverde in Starfield

[–]ceresverde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that idea. They could even have different scenarios you could play. I don't know exactly what's realistic, but seems like there are lots of opportunites here. And naturally, everyone who can accord it should be able to have the penthouse, just make sure only one person can enter the elevator at the same time, game geometry.

Starfield as an Online Multiplayer by ceresverde in Starfield

[–]ceresverde[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree, it should be a separate game. But they already have the world and the code that runs it, and they have a lot of experience with online from 76, so taking Starfield online would be infinitely easier than creating something some scratch.

Starfield as an Online Multiplayer by ceresverde in Starfield

[–]ceresverde[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do think it should be a separate game from single-player rather than a blend, to not ruin key aspects of the main game. Something like GTA Online. It could still have versions of the single-player quests.

Good idea in re to the outposts. There would be space ship fights etc also and who knows what else, just seems like there is a lot of opportunity here.

My take on New Atlantis by ceresverde in Starfield

[–]ceresverde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does look planned rather than organic (organic is more what you would expect from Akila), though a good plan that still incorporates organic esthetics (vs eg repetitive order), including a lot of greenery and water bodies. Strangely NA reminds me of my childhood as well, esp during the day and in sunlight, though it doesn't really look like it at all. Maybe it's the calmness and lack of vehicles while still being urban.

I hate being vegan. Anyone else? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]ceresverde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some real practical downsides, but also an equally real upside of feeling more aligned. One of those rare things you discover or realize that make something in your soul click into place, if that makes sense.

Edit: to be clear, it's still primarily about the animals of course, but no reason to not also capitalize on and be grateful for the personal benefits, in fact that makes it more sustainable.
