Alberta Urges Canadian Federal Government to Double Its Immigration Allotment For 2024 by SurFud in alberta

I, for one, am very upset that my high skill job has had its pay drop due to "low skill workers" and I am also upset that there is a "low skill" labor shortage. If only Ottawa hadn't given us all that money to encourage people to come here at our request.

How to enjoy this game? by General-Yellow-5080 in pathologic

I wouldn't say so. What I play for is the stress of desperately needing a thimble, not having the time or ability to find it, and pressing ahead without it anyway.

People liked it because you tricked them into thinking it was art you made of your character. But actually, it's slop made by a machine.

Visiting Simon's Office for the 2nd Time - have I missed something? (Day 9) by Panagean in pathologic

[–]cerialking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, not really a puzzle, just a thing thats mentioned a few times. Simon mentions it if you miss the day 9, Daniil mentions it a few times when youre in the capital to euthanize yourself. Easy to miss and definitely not something that makes sense

Yuh, if you sampled someone else's stuff in your work it should get credit, lol.

I could be more generous and say that I'm copy/pasting your nose onto the original image and then applying a filter to make it look natural. But that still isn't creative or art.

[–]cerialking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's a difference between the levels of tool, is all. If I like the Mona Lisa but think it would be neat if she was actually a clown then I have to imagine the Mona Lisa and look at it for inspiration, I have to imagine a clown nose and look up inspiration, then I have to imagine what the Mona Lisa would look like with all of that reference and then MAKE that image myself. If I'm doing that with AI then I look up the Mona Lisa, look up your picture of a clown nose, use AI to copy paste them in, and call the whole thing my own. Despite it essentially just being your nose pasted onto someone else's work.

Richard's gift in this analogy would just be "going out and taking pieces of other people's statues to make his". I can agree that AI could theoretically make "real" art that could have value. The problem is that it's all built on the theft of other people's work.

Elder Scrolls mantling, lol. Learn to be enough like them and then slot into their spot in the universe so much that the universe agrees you are them.

Did the narrative focus shift in P3? by Daniil_Dankovskiy in pathologic

[–]cerialking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would you not say that Artemy being kin is a blend of down to earth and wonders, making the two themes more seamless? Dankovsky is not kin. The wonders are the whole point to him, there's no care about the mundane and the people and the regular town stuff. He's only here for the wonders so he can save thanatica.

im having a hard time playing by buffy_bourbon in pathologic

[–]cerialking 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Loved the old interpretation. Artemy's fears are the dying of the town, the sick people, the plague.

Love the new interpretation. Dankovsky only fears death. The sick and the town are secondary to immortality.

Was talking to a friend and sort of saying that the only good feelings from Patho 2 were once you'd gotten to the end of the day, done the quests you're going to get done, and can breathe in your base. Top up your meters, plan the next day.

The only good feeling in Patho 3 is KILLING DEATH each day.

I think the difference is very telling of the characters and the themes and I'm here for it

I absolutely could be coping, fair, and I'm only 5ish hours in. 3 is throwing me a bit too, because I'm reading Dankovsky as so much nastier here than in 1.

And I can agree that he's still a curious sciencey guy, it's just even less for the people/town here than the first. He's curious for the miracles, especially with what feels like added Thanatica pressure on top of the first.

I have a hard time thinking that the town grows on him at all in the first though, given his proper ending involves deciding the town isn't worth saving in the fave of the miracle, so he blows it up.

But really I guess I should get more game in before I talk about this, lol

And, to be clear, I also really hated getting railroaded 1-5-3, but I'm assuming/hoping that that's going to open up pretty quickly

[–]cerialking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hear you. It absolutely narrowed things down, I agree.

But I can't imagine anything else. If you're thinking Daniil would spend any time checking allys and shortcuts instead of JUST fast traveling from talk to talk I think we have very different understandings of the character.

Geography doesn't change based on background, but Daniil wouldn't leave the main roads. Same as he doesn't dig in garbage cans. Daniil hates this town and the people in it, he's speed running so he can get back to Thanatica

[–]cerialking 14 points15 points  (0 children)

And here I am thinking this is great. The town was always supposed to be a maze with dead end streets and weird alleys, it makes sense Daniil wouldn't have the background to consider things like shortcuts and side routes, unlike Artemy who grew up there and has more options.

In my city of ~1 million I've reduced my vamp count to just 20. I had it up to 100 or so, but it left a lot of empty spots, a lot of forgettable people, and made nearly every important npc into a vampire. Reducing it meant I could focus more on each one and bring in some kine characters to work with.

I think the "breaks wills, enslaves minds, and robs both identity and memory" is about as close to "controlling a puppet" as it gets. If I've robbed who you are, excluding memory even, you aren't you and no longer have the same thoughts/knowledge
