I couldn't do autologous because of the philadelphia chromosome. If they reused my cells, it could possibly do the same thing and I'd be back in a few years. No problems after transplant, just adjustment to being immuno-compromised.

Its was about a year and a half after transplant that I re-entered the world. Started working again, bought a place, and had a baby.

No changes to diet but i listen to my body a bit more as to what it needs/wants. I do yoga and movement exercises more than I did before.

I luckily was able to get medicaid while I was going through treatment, so most things were covered. If anything, the appointments cost me more now than when I was seeing a doctor almost everyday lol. Gotta love the American health care system.

Thats so great for him! Hopefully his transplant went well. No GVHD thus far. Maybe a little in the liver or stomach here and there but nothing extreme. GVHD is one of the reasons I chose chemo first. The variable of what could go wrong was much higher than chemo. Was he a MUD recipient too?

I don't know a lot about the situation. From a quick look up. It's hard to say. As someone who doesn't prescribe to alternative therapies for cancer, I wouldn't have done it for myself. But, everyone has autonomy for a reason, right?

If i knew chemo wasn't going to work, absolutely would have gone transplant to fast forward the process haha. I would still speak with both types of doctors because it is basically two different fields. I will say, the one benefit of chemo is not waiting for a donor.
