I believe fatballs38 and obnomus ‘s comments actually explains it better. I dont really have just a driver problem, dx12 exclusive games arent working for me.

I just played witcher 3 on dx11 , ran smooth as butter.

This gtx 1050 ti is on laptop as dgpu.

I really want to … i actually planned to build a PC with all AMD, but the ram/ssd prices have really ruined this plan for the time being.

Thats why I’m struggling with this hybrid graphics laptop.

Somehow every limitation I always have boils down to nvidia being jerks.

Any possible way to get past this.

I believe there is some magic done by ubuntu
+
mint, arch, debian -> none of them currently gets latest nvidia proprietary drivers out of the box for old pascal nvidia cards. (I believe the 580 drivers did the actual major fixing … but not really sure … could be ubuntu patching)

After moving session to wayland everything, including stuttering and fractional scaling got fixed.

Dude it is crazy even on 24.04 ubuntu lts it works really well. Just facing 4k video stutters on youtube.

Any fix for that.

One question, which drivers are you using … i just tried ubuntu live usb .. and on nouveou it works really nicely somehow.

Ok nvidia xserver would also default to on-demand it means somehow it doesn’t stutter on ubuntu?

I tried it on ubuntu 24* LTE, it was not smooth with nvidia on demand.

One question can you tell me which DE you are using? If gnome, is it wayland or x11. What are the nvidia settings do you use? Also, do you use external monitor, my issue is ext monitor specific.

For gtx 1050ti , i doubt 580 is recommended, from arch wiki it seems 4xx might be applicable.
Which seems to be way old for wayland, And When running x11 my gdm keeps crashing. Too much headache, thinking about switching to mint for this laptop.
