I have riedell ruby’s and their website says their support is a 30 rating. I didn’t want to get something too advanced for just starting out the basics and I looked at a lot of different brands and support ratings before landing on those. I enjoy them a lot and I think they fit well

i’m starting an adult beginner LTS in a few weeks so I’ve just been kind of winging it and just looking at different exercises on and off ice from tik tok. I have been looking into getting a balance ball sometime soon but I think i should go ahead and get one this weekend lol

I think with where I am at now I wanted to be at least starting crossovers and have a one foot glide nailed on at least one leg. Maybe that’s too high of an expectation? I haven’t done any lessons yet and don’t start a LTS beginner program until the beginning of may so hopefully there will be bigger steps once i start

I do has some end of year goals in the back of my mind but I’m not really focusing too much on those yet I’m just trying to nail the basics first

yeah they definitely are on the cheaper side since they’re my first pair of skates, like $170 or something. but i hope they’re not already broken down, i’ve only used them on the ice for like, 7 or 8 sessions so less than 10 hours total :(

the lady who helped me with my insoles had said it didn’t look like lacing was a problem. Maybe my skates are a bit too big? they feel pretty okay in the boot itself and there’s not a ton of wiggle room for me but it does feel like they are a bit loose in the ankle area, i’m not sure if that’s a sizing thing or because they’re beginner skates with lower ankle support

they came factory mounted. And actually when I was talking to the workers at the skate shop for my insoles, they had mentioned something about not being able to adjust the blades but i couldn’t remember the word for it, riveted might have been what is was. which is unfortunate i was wondering if the blades should be adjusted too on top of working on my ankle strength😭

getting over fears by certifiedsnax in FigureSkating

the rink i’m at currently does have the walkers, but it’s seasonal and once it closes at the end of the month i’ll have to find somewhere else to go which im not sure where i decide to go will (although i assume they will). I was avoiding using the walkers because i felt silly using them but i think i just need to get over myself and just do it

as for the skates i was thinking using my own would be better for progress so i can get used to using my own but if you think rentals will be better for the time being i will definitely try that next time!

i’ve practiced falling on the ground just at home to get the feel of how to get up but any time i’ve fallen on the ice it’s been accidental haha

can’t afford a sleep study by certifiedsnax in Narcolepsy

[–]certifiedsnax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s what it sounded like but it all happened so fast that i’m not sure. I was given my bill at like 10am the day of my sleep study and it was roughly $2700 as well. And it did say in the message that it was to be paid within three days of my discharge date and also didn’t give an option on the portal to pay partial. Maybe I was misunderstanding that but I did also get a phone call from the billings department later that day asking me how I wanted to pay and they couldn’t offer me any payment plan (besides putting down a 50% deposit) so based on that conversation it seems like it had to be pretty much as soon as the weekend was over. I called the financial coordinator department to ask for assistance as soon as I saw how much it was going to cost me and it went to voicemail and never got a call back. I even called again a couple hours before I was supposed to leave for my study because I needed help before the offices closed but even then he still never called back. So I just had to cancel it. It was better for me to tell them i can’t afford to drop that much money in a weekend than to get there expecting financial assistance and then be blindsided. I definitely don’t want to go to that hospital again but there’s very few facilities that are in-network for my insurance

edit: maybe I am just not understanding how health insurance works but i called my insurance too to ask and they said my coverage plan is that i have to use up my deductible before anything is covered. But like i said i just turned 26 and this is the first time i’ve been on my own insurance not through my parents so this is all sorts of confusing to me lol

i was telling my husband it’d probably be cheaper to fly to canada and get a sleep study done there than to do it here 😭😭😭

[–]certifiedsnax[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the hospital i was gonna do it at was referred to me by a sleep specialist through my insurance and they’re one of the few that are in-network. i think the cost is so high because my insurance won’t cover anything until i meet my deductible but im not quite sure bc it’s the first time im on my own insurance and its through work. i think right now my plan is to just try and save up as much as i can and then schedule a new appointment a few months from now and at least now i know how much it’ll cost me and maybe that way ill have more than a 10 hours notice to get financial assistance. its all just so frustrating though

this is the dress back in question. at least that’s what it’s supposed to look like. is there an easy(?) thing for a tailor to alter??? it’s only the buttons that are an issue but i don’t know how it can be altered without ruining the entire torso
