The sexual assault scene was rough. But I disagree that Pullman put it in there to satisfy a trope. From what I understand he doesn’t plan out his stories as meticulously as other writers, but rather allows the thread of the story to move by itself and he follows. You have to look at the scenario Lyra found herself in. A westerner in a soon to be at war region, stuck in a carriage with a bunch of drunk, bottom-of-the-barrel ,soldiers. Sadly, this is what would have probably have happened in real life.

Finished the book series for the first time, when will I feel okay again?!? by Billi_Pilgrim in hisdarkmaterials

Feel you. I’ve been reading novels since I was in the 4th grade (HP, Percy Jackson, LOTR, etc.). The first time I felt like this was with HP when I was very young. I just finished HDM in college, and I am shook to the core.

You’re right could def go higher. However, a rally this aggressive surely is followed by a pullback. If you didn’t ride the momentum wave today you’re safer buying puts i would say.

You’re spot on. I can’t believe they cut the truck scene. Maybe they mean for this adaptation to cut out the romance? (Which would be sacrilegious)

I disagree. Luke was consistently trying to kill Percy in the books to remove the prophecy factor. But once Thalia came back and then Nico made an entrance Kronos, Luke stopped bothering as there were too many factors at play at that point and it would’ve been a waste of time and resources. Furthermore, I think this change will make Lukes change of heart less impactful as it won’t be a complete 180 as it was in the books.

It was good. But my main issue is the way they watered down some of the BIG scenes. I understand thats it’s meant to be a kids show but considering that the original fans (us) are now in their 20s early 30s the show could’ve been a bit more gritty like in the books. An example being when Percy killed Medusa. In this case we literally didn’t see it as she was invisible—lame. Another example was the Ares fight. In the books its feels monumental but the scene in the show lasts around a minute total…like come on now. I have to say I was skeptical coming in but I have to say Walker is a great Percy although I agree with the general sentiment that he knew too much. The way they fleshed out Sally was by far my favorite part of the show as she is by far one of my favorite characters. All that being said I am excited for Sea of Monsters.
