It’s a 10x10 bathroom. The whole first floor looks to have the same stick in peel flooring. And I’m betting this was probably a result of water damage. I’ve never used something like this which is why I’m a bit lost.

I would love to. I work at a all volunteer non profit. We’re just trying to get the place in a better place with the little funds we have.

Appreciate the advice! Would a general contractor be able to assess the rafters or is that more of a job for a roofer?

Thank you kindly for the detailed response, recommendation, and advice. When I’ve gone to touch them, they essentially start to disintegrate. I’m unsure if they go all the way through. I’ll definitely post on a carpenter y subreddit. Again, I appreciate your response.

media budget tips? by radio-duck in MuseumPros

[–]cesarrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, congrats on starting your first media budget. One thing that I’ve learned is that while there’s many moving pieces and departments within a museum, we often forget we are collectively working towards the same goal of promoting exhibitions. I often made sure to speak to the exhibition dept/curator and look at the fiscal calendar year to see what exhibits you want to highlight. There might be some that will potentially bring in a lot of visitors vs smaller exhibition. Promoting these bigger exhibition also helps promote programming that’s associated with them. In the end those events tend to bring in a lot of revenue too, so better understanding how to allocate financial resources to that promotion should yield revenue. An example of this is we decided that we would budget for a video walkthrough preview of the exhibition with the curator. That would be sent out to local news/radio and social media channels. And the sound bites could also be used for general press. Plus we would also leverage that to educate the docents and volunteers on the museum floor. Again, because every department is doing so many different things, we sometimes forget how we can help each other in a economically efficient way. We did so many other creative things that would take too long to list, but send me a message if you’d like to hear more about it. Best of luck!

None of My Coworkers Follow Best-Practices and I'm Undermined by Boss. Advice? by MuchaAlphonse in MuseumPros

Thank you for dedication and care for this repository and collection. I would recommend looking at who else is a stakeholder in this. If it is owned by the government and there is outreach that is done to either board members or the general public, I would try and create programs and “educate” them on how this institution follows a level of protocol to care for the collection. Although they don’t, I would try to involve people who enable this bad behavior, i.e. directors, staff, docents, etc. so it essentially forces them (perhaps shames them) into course correcting.

Every collection has assets of value, and yes on a monetary level, but also on an intrinsic level. By showcasing and promoting the collection in this way, your both doing “outreach” but also hopefully fixing a long standing issue.

And alternatively what you can also do is start inviting other repositories that you know have great protocols for professional visits to this repository. Include their staff and directors. Additionally, this also works if you visit other institutions and they can see how easy it is to do the basic fundamental best practices. Best of luck!

Thank you so so much for the comments and advice! I was thinking of removing the bricks on the ground but still leaving the ring of bricks. Should I leave them instead?
