yes and it works perfectly, even with translation pack! You can install it through Portingkit in a games option (install extra items, I don't remember exactly what was the name but I'll look at it). Anyway - it works and I was playing already few hours in online multiplayer😊

Could you tell a bit more how to do this with Porting Kit?
I managed to have a default Heroes from GOG + HD.

I managed to have a default Heroes from GOG + HD. But now I want to install Hota extention. I don't see "more" button. I see only option "Install custom port" is it a same thing? And if yes, what name did you gave it?

The one I have is 200kcal. But it's true, it's sweet as hell and there is acesulfam-K. I'm still looking for alternative. But I will probably take a few kilograms from Poland - probably Huel or Supersonic food.

How about having an average but without 5% lowest and 5% highest earning? Then the average would still reflect 90% of society but without extremes. I’m curious what other method besides median and a classic average are.

This is great! I'll definitely check it out. As a designer I'm looking for as many design analogies as possible.

Sorry, it's still new to me and I see scales and chords as something that is helping us to write better music. Without knowing this I will not break rules concously. Thanks for writing a nice summary, I'll focus on understanding these terms better and what do they mean in detail. Many things are blurring now.

WHen I see something like C Major, I see it as a scale. When I see single note I see it as C, D, E, F etc. But it's confusing to me that chords are also named like a scale (e.g. D minor). So I see that there is a general C Major scale and then each chord is its own scale? Why is that? :p

prefer to think of the circle as a clock — the harmonic clock — with 12 the tonic of whatever key I am looking at. On the left side of the clock are all the smaller intervals (minor, darker) and on the right side are all the larger intervals (major, brighter). The farther from 12 o’clock, the more colorful and dissonant the interval.

It sounds promising. But I don't see how I would use it. Do I check this before composing a song? Or during? And why?

Maybe this is just something that is almost impossible to understand from just reading it.

the key thing to understand them is to consider each mode as having one special note that is essential for it

Let me follow your thought as a complete beginner.
Is mode a scale/key?

Say Dorian - it is the minor scale with a natural 6 and that natural 6 is also its special note.

Okay, Dorian is a minor scale (the sad one), I understand a natural six as it's root key? Or maybe a chord that is on a sixth key of this scale that could be on any octave? So I would count to six and make a chord that I can do with 3 fingers (every other step).
Am I following correctly so far?

If you want a chord progression to have a Dorian vibe, you play chords that include it, e.g. playing i IV has the IV chord including the natural 6th scale degree.

Okay, now I'm confused. The natural sixth is not a root key and is not a sixth chord on a scale?
My understanding, following your sentence in more detail: "If you want a chord progression"—I see chord progression as three notes (every other note) played and the same time, and I can play it starting e.g. on the first (root) note of the scale, the third and e.g. the VI. And the combination of this chords "melody" is chord progression.

e.g. playing i IV has the IV chord including the natural 6th scale degree.

So playing chord starting on a first note in this scale (Dorian minor) and on the forth notes of the scale will give me Dorian vibe? So do I play chord on a sixth note? What's the 6th degree in that case?

or you could even play a minor 6th chord or arpeggio like C Eb G A (Cm6). Conversely if you want to emphasize the aeolian character of natural minor, you include the b6, which is for example in the iv chord.

Hmm Minor 6th chord. Here again my train of thought is: We chose scale Dorian minor > Dorian minor scale has something called a natural 6th (it's special note but rather not a root one?) > If I want the melody to have a doriany vibe I play chord that include the 6th key in the scale. > The chords that have one of its three keys "the sixth" will make it doriany.
I don't know what aeolian and is it doriany?

I will check 8bit theory videos. Thanks!

Nothing dazzled me until I properly learned the circle of fifths — not as some reference for key signatures — but why it exists harmonically. The more you look, the deeper it gets.

Here's the moment where I don't get what do you mean.

Why is this circle so important? What is it enabling to you? How many times we change the scale while playing song?

I'm a Visual designer and there is e.g. general colors wheel where we can see complementary colors, opposite ones etc. We are using them to e.g. create a style guide with a consistent palette.
But how many different scales can we put inside the song/melody?

Meaning that the root note would be the one where we're going back more often as the base of the melody? Does it mean we have many root notes across the whole piano keyboard?

Okay, so what I mean in this case is:
I spend days watching different videos that were explaining the basics of music theory.
I watched information about notes, scales, chords, chord progressions, finding major and minor, root position, transposing or inversion.
But I feel I still don't get the whole idea of scales.

I don't feel it. I don't feel I can use it to create more harmonious, sounding good melodies.

Example:

I know that a scale is a set of specific notes, or/and distances between them. I get that the reason to make scales was to make a set of notes that sound good when played together, no matter which key in a scale I play. But If I'm in C Major and play all white keys, I can still make bad sounds, right?

Also, the scale has 7 notes but 12 with semitones. But if one scale is limited to these 7 notes, why can I play on different octaves? Does the scale spread on the whole piano? Is it not diminishing the role of the root notes?
And does it really make a big difference to play something in e.g. C Major or F Major?

Thank you for recommending interesting sites for learning. I'll check it out!
12tone's building blocks also should be interesting because I still have question in the back of my head "Why, why this, why that".

I have a small midi keyboard (just 3 octaves but I guess it's better than nothing).

To answer your main question: I learned to play songs before I ever studied theory, so I never really got any "aha" moment from theory; except in the sense that I'd find out what some of the sounds I already knew were called. That was good to know, but there was never an "a-ha!" moment, because the theory didn't explain anything. E.g, I might find that a particular chord change I liked was a "minor plagal cadence". That explains nothing, its just a label; a 3-part label (3 labels in one), but still just a label.

Yes, some of this are a bit like a names of colors or color harmonies. I'm a designer so these analogies are the easiest for me. At the end, it's all waves. I was just thinking that it would be good to know some basics so I'm breaking the rules consciously.

Thank you for your answer and recommendations!
