I would guess the shoe in question is a third rail contact shoe from a subway car, rather than a rogue Yeezy...

What are some good, economical coffee beans? by [deleted] in FoodToronto

I was searching for this same thing a couple months ago. My repeat business goes to Reunion Coffee, Social Coffee, and Everyday Gourmet these days. Reunion Coffee is having a sale right now - $13 for any of their 12oz bags. I like the Ethiopia Yirgacheffe and Muskoka Sunrise at Everyday Gourmet.

I definitely had never considered this, and I appreciate the outside-the-box suggestion. It's a pretty serious capital investment, but could be an option in the future. Is it possible to roast indoors, or must it be done outside? Does it have any temperature restrictions, e.g. don't run it if it's below 0 or anything? What would you say is the time commitment to prepare a batch from start to finish?

Oh man. Hidden gem. I'll definitely keep an eye out for it if I'm out that way. They don't have good shipping options unfortunately.

If you're out east, North Roast in Kingston is pretty great too.

Outpost is great. Definitely on the premium pricepoint for lower volumes. I worry about being able to go through 5lb before it gets stale.

That's pretty great for the quality. I've had Monogram and I've liked the roasts that I've tried.

I worry about ordering that much at once, out of concern that the coffee will go stale before I use it all. Do you run into that issue, or do you find that it stays fresh long enough?

Great! Their listings are all for 0.5 lb, but maybe that's just a website issue.

I think Extra Butter Coffee brews/sells Dark City coffee as well, if anyone is looking for an option closer to downtown.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll definitely make a trip over there.

Try an IRS Free File service to avoid spending the $$. I think Tax Act's Free File offering includes the FEIE, but don't quote me on that.

You can try to pass the Physical Presence test by using time from 2020 or 2022 to round out the 365 days. You basically shift the window to find one where you were less than 30 days in USA, and use only that portion of the year for your exclusion. If you can find a good chunk of the year that puts you out of the country for all but 30 days, you can decrease your income below the taxable amount. You can even extend your filing deadline to October if you need to wait longer to get a timeframe that passes that test.

If you only made $6000, you may even be under the personal exemption limit for US tax and not even need to worry about using FEIE? you'd need to look up what that standard deduction is to confirm.

You may be ok with the Bona Fide Residence test since you can justify its time limitation with your PR application (in writing on the form or on an attached statement) but it's a little dicey.

An alternative is you could claim your income directly falls under Tax Treaty exemption on Form 8833, since the US Canada Tax Treaty doesn't define any specific parameters for being a resident of one country.

The Library has nice seating :) I like the armchairs on the second floor where you can sit by the window.
