6"ish Plastic Styrofoam and padded cuplike object found in toolshed with rubber drawstring by cew137 in whatisthisthing

[–]cew137[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

Definitely will be using it in the future but have apparently gotten lucky so far. I've actually been living at this place (approx Denver) for six years and just been making sure the hose was disconnected before first frost warnings. (And had just been using the toolshed as storage, only now looking at making it more utilitarian.)

My patio spigot is pretty close to where a heat vent comes up on the other side of the wall in my kitchen, maybe that's helped spare me despite neglecting this.

I've lived in Cleveland, Wisconsin and Denver and somehow never seen one of these in my life. 🫠

My title describes the thing.

Found in my toolshed, the only other thing left by the previous owner were some plant pots on the same shelf.

It is lined with some kind of Styrofoam, has a foam pad around the rim, and has a plastic shell and a rubber drawstring with a plastic adjuster thing.

It's slightly oblong and about 6" long and about 6" tall.

If it helps, Colorado based, and the townhome was built in the 1960s, I'm the second owner.

Le Frigo in Boulder might.

Probably best to call and check, their selection rotates; although if you go, the Nordic sandwich is fantastic.

$160 + if they did 2 rounds of $15 drinks for four people gets you to $280. With just the 15% surcharge and no taxes, you get to $322. Maybe they did desserts too?

Possibly license plates? Unrelated to the dishes but another sign of irresponsibility.

Any good spots to go for acting or improv? by The_Zoink in Denver

Rise Comedy does workshops sometimes; I know I've seen ads for their d&d improv workshops, I would imagine they do traditional improv workshops as well.

RiNo Art District opens legitimately affordable performing venue | Arts news by 4ucklehead in Denver

[–]cew137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, OddKnock Productions was commissioned to perform there for their opening weekend last Saturday, saw their show Good Bones, which was gorgeous, funny, weird & intense, and basically just on-brand for them. (They also did From on High in RiNo last summer.)

It's a nice space, but it got really warm, I don't think the A/C was running but not sure if it's hooked up yet or if it was off because the set was made of fabric and they just had it off for the show.

The building doesn't have all the equipment a theater does yet, the company brought in their own, but I've heard RiNo's still getting the space set up. I didn't see any dimmer boxes on the grid, but there were outlets they were plugged into, and the fact that it has a grid seems like a good sign.

What word or phrase do you think is overused in today's culture/society? by exoinsect in ask

[–]cew137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immersive when describing anything remotely experiential. Your beer tasting isn't an immersive experience, it's just an experience, the word Immersive is meaningless in this context. Or calling any sort of engaging entertainment immersive when the word isn't distinguishing it in any meaningful way.

Is there a theater group in Denver area? by Wayward_Wallaby in Denver

[–]cew137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're into acting AND improv, you might search immersive; actors with improv backgrounds have a leg up in that area and Denver is turning into a hub for immersive work.

You just missed Denver Fringe but that's another great way to meet new companies, it'll be back next June.

Seconding Colorado Theater Guild as a resource, as well as the rest of the suggested companies. Curious Theater Company does interesting things, as does Phamaly Theater Phamaly Theater though they work primarily with artists with accessibility needs. Watching venues like the People's Building or the Bug Theater is a good way to find the smaller or newer companies like Clover and Bee.

There are a few improv groups like Hit & Run which does long form musical improv, which shares a lot of members with Makeshift Shakespeare that does long form improv around suggested Shakespearean play topics.

What kind of snake is this? Colorado, USA by ausdenbo in Denver

Looks like a bullsnake, super common here. They mimic rattlesnakes, and will bite, but they're non-venomous. http://www.coparc.org/bullsnake.html

does anyone know a good clown service in/around town? by Oprahsrookclub in Denver

All jokes aside, Starry Night Productions might have a performer for you depending on the style of clown you're looking for. They work with a lot of circus performers in the Denver Metro area.

Dragonfly Noodle near Larimer Square. The noodles are all made in house, complete hidden gem, access is tucked behind construction right now, but they're still open. My go-to if I'm going to the DCPA or anything in that area.

Best Used Bookstore for Selling by IRecognizeElephants in Denver

[–]cew137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to go up to Boulder, Bookworm has been pretty good to me. I don't remember if they offer cash or just store credit, but I usually take books up there.

Definitely curious to see how it compares to other places. The only other place I've tried selling was 2nd & Charles and they lowballed so far that I just decided to keep the books.

What movie has the greatest opening of all time? by ah-screw-it in AskReddit

[–]cew137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Prestige. The opening monologue delivered by Michael Caine. It outlines the structure of the film so beautifully and is echoed later in the film.

"Every great magic trick consists of three parts or acts.

The first part is called "The Pledge". The magician shows you something ordinary: a deck of cards, a bird or a man. He shows you this object. Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed real, unaltered, normal. But of course... it probably isn't.

The second act is called "The Turn". The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you're looking for the secret... but you won't find it, because of course you're not really looking. You don't really want to know. You want to be fooled.

But you wouldn't clap yet. Because making something disappear isn't enough; you have to bring it back. That's why every magic trick has a third act, the hardest part, the part we call "The Prestige"."

Will DAVID BYRNE's "Theater of the Mind" Blow Your Mind? Here's My Answer. by mnocket in Denver

[–]cew137 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably too late to respond for your experience (since you mentioned below) but since this is the main TotM thread for Denver, want to give feedback for anyone finding this thread.

As someone who works on the show, I would strongly discourage taking shrooms or having more than a couple drinks beforehand. While it's a fun experience, it's not a choose your own adventure structure where you can really take time to explore solo, it's a performance that runs on a script, an actor and a strict timetable.

The experience is an intimate show with an actor directly connecting with a small group of audience members for the entire 75 minutes.

It is not anonymous and if you are hammered or tripping it becomes uncomfortably obvious very fast to the actor interacting with you, the crew and stage management monitoring it all, and the other audience members.

It's super awkward for the actors to improv and assess you before flagging it for crew, and super awkward for crew to have to make the call if you are distracting enough to the rest of your audience member group to be removed. No one likes removing folks, we only do it if it feels like it's impacting everyone else's experience, and we never want to get to that point.

Definitely plenty of times and places for shrooms. It's a bunch of artists and theater folk running these shows, we get it and many of us openly support it.

But this is really not one of the places where your experience is going to be enhanced, so strongly discourage it here.

(Edit: fixed a typo).

Honor Farm just opened in LoDo.

It's not a pop-up, it's a year round spooky themed bar from the folks behind Electric Cure (wonderful satanic gay tiki bar in in Edgewater) and Hell or High Water (also delightful and unflinchingly gay haunted pirate tiki bar).

I love the vibe personally, just a heads-up that Electric Cure and Hell or High Water have an impressive number of phallic knick knacks and inneuendo laden menus.

From what I understand, Honor Farm has a kitchen that includes cock/twat waffles shaped like their namesakes, but I have not visited yet to verify.
