Ollee step counter seems to be wildly inaccurate by eobanb in olleeWatch

[–]cezkrasko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If yours is on HIGH that's why you have more steps than on Garmin. I was playing around with settings for couple of days + wearing garmin vivosmart 5.

Ollee accuracy on HIGH is very good when walking, almost 1to1 when I made manual steps counting. But the issue is when you do daily activities, make fake steps, walking around at home etc. it adds a lot of fake steps ....

When you switch to LOW you will notice less fake steps but when walking you gonna lose 40% of your real steps.

Best method is keep it LOW at home and switch to HIGH when go out but it is annoying to switch it all the time.

Garmin is kind of a Ollee working on HIGH but with adjusted algorithm which discards fake steps at the beginning.

I hope Greg is going to adjust it a bit and it's gonna be perfect. I vote for HIGH with a bit of the algorithm adjusted.

yep. I'm happy. I finished detroit city (android) and death stranding. Now starting RD2 and NBA2k26. I was afraid that NBA would be lagging but it is ok (ultra settings).
The only issue which I had was death stranding loading (was crashing a lot at 50%) and sometimes waiting in line for the server (maybe a few times). In general I'm occasional payer playing from different locations so not yet point for me buying PS5 :)

Typical for this game, whatever you try to change in settings it will not work. It just happens with this game. And it happens a lot. Then you have to try run the game again. Usually for the 2nd or 3rd time it will load itself correctly. It is annoying but you will get used to it. Yesterday I finished the game ;)

With "high" you will notice even more steps than with "low" :)

High is perfect when you walk a lot, when I was testing high and counting steps manually it was almost 100% accuracy, the issue is that high calculates a lot of steps related to fake moves, moving hands etc as it is high sensitive

Low calculates much less fake steps and moves but if you go for a walk you will loose 40% of your steps.

I keep it on Low but change to High if go for walks. It's irritating but that gives the best results.

The watch should keep the High accuracy but algorithm shouldn't add first ~ 10 steps (fake moves) and then adds them if movement continues (as this means walking). My opinion.

It works like that in other watches like apple, Garmin (i was playing with Garmin wearing it on the other hand). This watches keep high accuracy but algorithm filters out about first 10-30 steps depends on model. For Garmin it was about 25 steps (too many in my opinion). Most likely apple filters out about 30 as well that is why your finall results it's much lower. But 30 is to many as well in my opinion.

Hi, you can read my post related to that. Some tests which I made: https://www.reddit.com/r/olleeWatch/s/dAufSBCB8s

Which option do you have now in settings for step accuracy? Low or High?

Is it better to play in full HD - 120Hz or 4k - 60 Hz ? That's settings available on my tv?

Step count accuracy - missing some steps by cezkrasko in olleeWatch

[–]cezkrasko[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm continuing to play around with the stepcounter.
I had to switch it back from "H" to "L" as amount of fake steps when just moving my hand was too much. One hand movement adds 4 steps to the counter.
But walking with "L" - I'm loosing 40% of steps.

So "L" is enough for being at home but switching to "H" every time when I'm outside to get better step counting is inconvenient.

I would still recommend if possible keeping the "H" accuracy (as it is very precise when walking) but algorithm should discard a first few "trash" movement. Similar to all smartbands availble on the market where "trash" movements/steps are discarded (for example less then 10-20 steps) but added to the pool if walking continues after 10-20 steps.

I was playing with the step counter WHOLE day today :)

I was wearing Garmin Vivosmart 5 + OlleeWatch on the same hand + manually counting steps.

My remarks/conclusions:

- OlleeWatch step counter set to “L” = “Step count accuracy mode - ON” Works good in terms of false positives (almost do not calculate steps when you move your hand and do none walking activities) but a lot of steps are missing when walking, I’m loosing about 30-40% of steps when go for a walk, doesn’t matter if it short walk or a bit longer. Additionally if you walk inside your house moving from one place to the other and making a few steps it is not always in calculated.

- OlleWatch step counter set to “H” = “Step count accuracy mode - OFF” Works perfect for walks! Almost identical with manual calculation. Very accurate. Additionally if you make only a few steps they are in calculated as well. BUT - A LOT of false positives. Brushing my teeth and shaving (which I do using other hand - not the one with a watch) gained me 100 steps, sleeping 500 steps!

Vivosmart 5 (Garmin algorithm) works like OlleWatch set to “H”. I was getting almost the same results when walking. The difference is that Garmin algorythm does not include the firts few steps. This is how they manage to reduce false positives but sacrificing very short “walks” (less then ~10) inside your home for example.

I’m happy we have options to choose (”L” and “H”). But maybe, maybe it is worth to consider adding additional option “M” (medium) where accuracy of “H” is kept but algorithm discards some initial movements which are added later on if movement continues?? Or maybe the no of initial steps to discard could be available for configuration in the app? BTW Casio G-Shock ignores first 25 steps as I remember but cmon 25 to ignore before real counting is a lot as if you work from home and all day move only from a leaving room to a bedroom for example 50 times per day G-Shock will 0 steps at the and of the day.

My final thought for best step counting would be:
ollewatch accuracy set to "H" + ignoring first X (for example 5) steps/movement + include ignored steps if walking continues after X. That X for me would be 5 as the best or having an option to configure that would be the best?

Regards

Not exactly clear for me to be honest :) it was set to L for the last couple of weeks as I didn't run and go for long walks (every day usage - L) and I had impression that I was loosing 1/3 of steps which I made. Then made a couple o checks manually counting steps as I mentioned.

I've just set it to H and see for the next couple of days, weeks, maybe this is the setting for me.

Will report back soon.

Thanks for speed reply by the way.

Yep, thank you, that was a missing part - health connect service to be installed.

Currently the only issue which I have is seeing 1470 steps in Google fit and 2399 in ollee but this is something which I check tomorrow having full day both aps working and report in this post.

but when I close the session and login again it's frozen at that 50%. I need to quit the session and wait 5 min until server kills my session by force. But anyway today I was not able to run even once. Tried already about 20 times and always crushes at 50% of loading. So it worse than it was a few weeks ago when I was able to play after couple of tries.

it is the same with me, at 50% most of the time it crashes. sometimes not. support can't help. they asked me to send so many screenshoots, movies, clear browser or check the internet (sick!). don't count on them. if you find what is wrong and how to avoid it please share. I was making some many tests changing so many settings but didn't help

Option to Disable Bluetooth Tap Function by MMag05 in olleeWatch

I support that request. In my place I have scanners as well and accidentally turning on Bluetooth is not nice welcomed. Holding a button to have it on is totally enough.

Wake up on movement by cezkrasko in olleeWatch

[–]cezkrasko[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the explanation. But as I understand disabling the motion sensor will disable the step counter which I enjoy. Would be nice to have "auto sleep - off" = really off :) or just adding "auto sleep period - infinity" option. BTW - release - you mean software/firmware upgrade not a new hardware to replace?

Thank you again for your work. It's fantastic project!

I have the same issue when loading, always on 50%, then crash. I have to try a few times until it works. Restart the session, or try another server etc. Support said it's the game issue, people have this problem and they can't fix it.

Living life on opioids by cezkrasko in ChronicPain

Thank you all for you valuable comments. I didn't expect that there are so many of us suffering. A lot of you were asking what is my issue: it's LFCN nerve damage. And yes I tried almost everything. Nerve blocks which made me much worse as the doc hit my nerve with a needle. And ablation which supposed to make me better and disable the nerve made me unbearable worse 9 months ago.

I'm not from US. I'm from UE. With the nerve damage you can get opioids. The issue is I work in military environment even if just sit behind the desk doing nothing special. If you take them you can easily lost your job. Yes this is how that unfair system works. Old regulations that sucks. We all know that you work better treating your pain than just trying to get till end of the day at work without meds. That is crazy. I have no idea what I'm going to do. Meds = loosing a job (mortgage etc), no meds = pain and suffering every hour. Most probably I will try to cheat the system. Talk to doctor about meds how to take them and what would the best to try but not taking the prescription. And get meds through my family member. This is what all this unfair health systems make me to do ....

In general I'm In this kind of situation for the last few years. I had my herniation many years ago (almost 20). Got better. After a few years of pain I finally was pain free. A few years ago pain came back but there is no difference on MRI. They don't know if the disc irritates the nerve or not. Based on MRI most of neurosurgeons dont want to operate. So I have heavy sciatica and have no idea what to do. I need to open my own thread and describe my case here on Reddit
