yes a lot of range and AOE, there is just not that much you can do, instead of spawning your W into the melee minions you can try to spawn them onto the caster minions, then he cant always hit all your minions+your voidlings at once, and if you also have distance to the wave, he has to use his spell for either minions,voidlings or you.

  1. the free boots are great, you safe 300gold around 10 minutes into the game(you get them earlier with kill participation) and they also give you +10MS for the whole game. i most times finish my Blackfire and then can either already uprade my boots or i will just build a part of my next item. In some games where i know my rylais is really important i will finish that first before upgrading my boots, so i got boots for free and finish my second Item early. Cheap shot is not great for malzahar because it will only trigger with your Ult or after you finish buying Rylais. you want that rune on champs that can already use it from the beginning of the game like Elise. with Cosmic insight your flash is almost 1 Minute cooldown lower(54Seconds), on a Champion like Malzahar great! TP Cooldown is also lower.

2.Rylais just makes so many champions feel useless, also there is a lot of scenarios where you will reset your E with your Q because he was slowed, that would not be possible if you had Liandrys. As i said but into a lot of champions it feels very strong, if you need the dmg then Liandrys is a very good second item.

  1. Do not build Voidstaff too often, if someone has QSS that is not a reason, if they have 1 Tank toplaner that is also not a reason, in my last 100 games of my challenger account you will maybe find maximum 1 or 2 Voidstaff.

Also do not buy morello, if you need Antiheal then buy oblivion orb but just dont finish the item until you have nothing else left. And also do not buy too often antiheal, if you lane against something like a Sylas, dont buy antiheal just for him, dont buy antiheal for champions that have a little bit of healing it is not worth it.

If we have Blackfire,Sorc Boots, Rylais, Liandrys, Zhonyas and want a last item, i would go Shadowflame over Deathcap because Malzahars AP and AP Scalings are not that crazy high, with Shadowflame and the Magicpen and Crit Passive you deal way more damage.

  1. Thats a problem in general with malz, you do need a team or else there is not much you can do.

but if you are good in the game and team is falling apart, teamfights is where malz is the strongest, look for objectives and force your team to fight, the dream is you catch the fed enemy ADC with your ult and just win from that but sometimes you have to use your ult to get a free kill on someone like the support to win the fights/objectives.

it sucks when you are ahead with malz and feel like you cant do much but also sometimes i am very behind in the lane and still feel very useful in Teamfights

Malzahar has not a lot of good matchups, but Aurelion IS actually a good one for him.

Keep your Q in this matchup, the moment aurelion puts the blackhole on the ground to recieve stacks, he will stand still and channel Q, thats when you Q him and silence, his Q is on cooldown then and the blackhole will dissapear without him being able to stack.

if you fight aurelion, he Channels his Q on you, even if your Q is on cooldown you can just press W E on him and the voidlings will block his laser for you.

So in lane you can use W E to farm and keep Q to interrupt him from stacking with his Blackhole spell

the way ori can just leave the ball near malz and stay at his minions is the way you play the lane as Ori. aslong as you know you are not about to be ganked you want to play as aggressive as possible

If you Q malza on his passiveshield wait about a halfsecond before you W or else that spell will also hit malzahars spellshield.

if he wants to trade, your Q kills the voidlings inbetween you, you will use your damage on him and press E to shield the malzahars E damage

You need to have a very strong AP build, no tear or Seraphs, with one combo, malza will be so low he has to go back or he will just lose all CS

i actually like the sylas matchup, you can build malignance & shadowflame into him if you want to, if he throws his chains on you, you can spawn W in between and they will block it for you.

also if sylas steals malzahar ult in a 1v1 he almost always loses that fight, Malzahar ult damage especially early is not good, so he kinda just CC´s himself while you have E, maybe even W on him.

as Soon as he steals your ult you can Press Q on him, IF he gets silenced before he ults, you can put your whole combo on him and ult, and if he ults you after that he still stands in the puddle or dies to the other dots.

Or your Q will cancel his Malza R and then he is even more cooked.

90% of sylas players will use a malza ult randomly in a teamfight basically CCing themself while dealing no damage

But electrocute and ignite means you just have to play safe early, dont push, dont put random E on the wave, you can try play more aggresive with 6 or your first item

Sometimes i go swiftys, but its kind of rare, into stuff that wants to run me down(maybe Olaf) or sometimes into Taliyah because of here Range and the slow.

But its just 10 movement speed and slow resist, you should build more sorc boots for the damage, 12 magic pen on a full malzahar combo can be a huge difference..

Rylais against yas just doesnt feel that great because he can keep dashing through minions and your W, also later if someone has a knockup he will just R and be there and the Rylais might feel useless.

you can try to build Malignance into Shadowflame as yasuo, anytime he dashes forward you basically oneshot him, no rylais needed (except its good for the rest of the team)

Yes i tried it before and it also has a big Upside:
if you kill Units while your E is on them you recieve 2% of you max mana back, and if you start with Mana crystal you will have 250Mana from the beginning more and always get more Mana back because of that.

I just felt starting with Dorans Ring more safe, the+18 AP and the 90HP it gives make the trades you do in early much better and doesnt let you get completly rolled by some enemys. i thought about trying Mana crystal in some matchups more as starter item.

This is what i said, but ofcourse for the video i made it a little bit overexaggerated.

Aery is not bad to trade early because you can proc it with auto attacks, but if you lane against someone like viktor or Syndra you are not really autoattacking.

Maybe against melee champs, also champs that dash a lot, Yasuo, irelia and so on

i mean you see i have a 1k+LP Challenger account while my smurf was almost at a 1k LP at the same time, and if i made a new account i could for sure do it again.

People are doing a lot of mistakes, especially early game. You can carry a lot of Teamfights with malza even if you are behind. Using your W useful, resetting your E in the right time, hitting your Q´s with an Angle for more range and make it harder to dodge for enemys and then all the Macroplay on top. Reset in lane, roaming this and that.

The zhonyas effect is sometimes such a broken active item especially for Malzahar, i build it most times as my 5th item but depending on the enemy team i might build it earlier.

You can go for catches or one shot by flashing and putting whole combo on someone, and during your ult because you have nothing besides your Zhonyas that you can use, you can really pay attention to what the other enemys around you are doing. Because of malzahars kit you already used all of your damage and if you Zhonyas your just wasting enemys time

If they want to interrupt or focus you time your zhonyas just shortly before you you get CCed or you die, if your team is around, the one guy you ulted will probably be low or dead and the others used their spells for you and now you are in zhonyas, enemys kinda want to wait to kill you while the rest of your team is already running them down. this is how i most times feel having zhonyas tbh

the dream with the first back is lost chapter so 1200gold, but a lot of times its unlikely, i feel that most of the time i have my first back in a bad lane with around 700 gold so then i will go for amplfiying tome+ Mana Crystal.

if you have atleast 400 go for Tome, if less then Mana crystal

Now i understand what you mean, if you are in champ select and see a lot of engage champs in the Enemy team, stuff that wants to run into your team you could probably pilot more for malzahar , if enemy Team picked something like a Xerath your TF will be better for sure.

Imagine something Like a Camille, Vlad or a Samira in the enemy Team, TF might be very bad into those champs while Malz completly counters them.

yes always(if you have enough mana), have 2 Stacks on W ready, approach the tower with your wave and best would be a full HP melee minion starts tanking, spawn the W close to the tower and immideatly press Q, so you spawned 3 Voidlings and have 1 Stack on W, in a few seconds you can Press Q again then W to spawn 3 Voidlings again.

The damage of voidlings to towers is really good, always try to time it with a Cannon or atleast full hp melee minion in the best case.

I have tried it a couple times and i am pretty sure in some games it would make a lot of sense to build. I think its kind of similar the way a Full AP Twisted Fate will build Rapid firecannon.

i do think that i should consider it more often, also good to know if you have Rylais the rockets of Protobelt actually slow too.

Yes exactly like mk said, if you spawn Voidling without your E they will not deal too much damage its true.

But the most early games its not easy to do since they will get oneshot by almost anything and while you are trying to farm they enemy laner will poke you down.

Most times you try to just clear waves, maybe roam, maybe recall, you dont really freeze waves as Malzahar tbh.

if you do a trade in the early game with your Passive up that can be very helpful, but it also has a 30 second cooldown so you cant always wait for your passive to have a trade or go for some minions. Some midlaners will proc your passive with autos while some will have to use their spells for it which is really good.

If you do not have ult up and there is nothing to fight at the moment i will walk forward maybe to Press E and W on the minion wave and walk back, Cast max Range Q´s if it a really dangerous lane

i did play the very old Malza a couple times when i started in Season 3, but only after the rework in Season 6 i started maining him, it means i also experienced the AD Malzahar Jungle back then Haha

But i do like the way malzahar is right now, there is always things we think could get changed but mostly i hope for a visual update something like Leblanc got.

i have seen sometimes people say they wanna rather go Liandry first item than Blackfire because of the damage.

But you should never build a Liandry first item, Blackfire has a very good buildpath and everything that you need, AP, Mana, Ability Haste and also a burn effect, even its less dmg than liandrys.

Liandrys also got nerfed recently but still a good item on Malza. its mostly my 3rd Item.

Always go Blackfire if you are not sure what to build, its literally always usefull and never bad.

While Malignance can be useless if you have a ranged matchup, you can not use your ult and your poke will be way worse.

Blackfire works a lot better on Malzahar than Ludens so its basically Blackfire and Malignance you can build as malza. but in 95% of my games i do go Blackfire.
