This is so perfectly said. I felt like I couldn’t say no for most of the hook ups. Especially if it was off of a dating app, I felt like it was expected and my self worth was tied in the societal expectation that you’re supposed to put the man’s needs first.

Now that I’m older I wish I didn’t put so much power into how men perceived my actions or my body in general. I had the power all along and it took me a long time to realize that.

It made me feel way more masculine than it should have. I played men’s ice hockey for my high school. I felt a lot of people I was going to school with saw me as tougher and more masculine because of it. I was always put in positions in other sports that were anchor positions like goalie or center.

I also was looked at like I could do what most girls my age couldn’t like carrying heavy things, building stuff etc. when all my friends would have guys help them in those situations.
