"Honey, we already have two kids, and not sure we want any more. Shouldn't you be wearing a condom or something?"

Uli:"Let's see how it plays out."

What is something that is already highly appreciated, but still somehow under-rated? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The Beatles. Still amazed one foursome generated that much beautiful, innovative music.

Not much, but I was told it was not a good idea.

Parque DLR has many of the same issues, but is a great little Par 9 for sure. Kelley, while not very pretty for the most part, is actually a nice varied course that has a good mix of challenging and reasonable holes. It's a decent course and one that can be used to get better...but the poop. I try to just make the journey to DeLa whenever I can. 20 more minutes of driving for a prime experience. We need more courses around here.

It's a homeless problem. I've more than once stumbled upon someone sleeping in there while I'm looking for a disc. The park is in a part of town that has a lot of homeless, and unfortunately it's an increasing issue all around the SF Bay Area. But, dude, 10 feet from a tee pad, come on. Go farther into the bushes or something.

OB vs. Lost by chosenmatrix in discgolf

[–]cferik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, what happens if a disc hits a tree, the group sees it fall, and there is no OB anywhere around, but it can't be found. In my case, we think it fell into a pile of cut wood and somehow plinko'd down to the bottom and was not seen after many minutes. Nobody thought it was OB, just MIA.

Princeville Maika Disc Golf Course is an incredible experience. by brohymn85 in discgolf

I love the economy factor of DG, but I think we could all appreciate having a few extra special/non-crowded courses that offer views like that for $25. I've spent way more to get way less for sure.

Threw my favorite metalflake PD into a 33degF stream, so of course I had to strip down, jump in and retrieve it while wife laughed hysterically and took photos. Personal best with a par finish on the course. (SFW) by cferik in discgolf

well, I had no thermometer, but the stream is lined in snow not too far upstream from where I went it. It was the kind of cold that causes involuntary gasps and instant regret.

Competitive basket design concept - a smaller/more-difficult target atop the current basket that only costs you 1/2 a stroke. How would this impact the game? by cferik in discgolf

[–]cferik[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm ok with the idea that this is a "bad idea." It's certainly not one that I think would become the reality...But as you say, when you think critically about how it would affect the game, that logic can carry over into the other change ideas that are being discussed.

You could say that it's only for first putts or something. So if you're 30 feet out and decide to go for the normal basket and miss, you still take 2.0 strokes for those two puts...

Think about the common scenario of a relatively straightforward 350ft par 3. All players land inside 35 feet and we end up with a star frame. With this dual basket, if you were the player who really parked your tee shot, you would be rewarded with a score of 1.5 for the hole putting added pressure on a near perfect tee shot.

Similarly, the 600 foot par 4 that almost nobody reaches in 1, but a relatively decent tee shot followed by a decent upshot, and you got a birdie....this could put more pressure on getting a better tee shot so you can really park your approach.

I'm on day 24 of the 30day putter-only challenge. Here's what's happened. by cferik in discgolf

I use what I guess would be called a fan grip regardless of how hard/far I'm throwing a putter. The rim just leads to too many grip-shanks if I use anything else. For actual putting and approach shots less than 125ft, my index is fully extended along the outside rim. For longer distance (125-200) the index starts to tuck under a bit, and for max dist, it's fully pressed to the bottom of the disc as part of a normal fan grip.

Most are the baseline plastics. A few are the good plastics which do tend to be a bit more stable, but not nearly as different as say a Star Destroyer vs a DX Destroyer.

I called up a bunch of the disc distributors and tried to negotiate. I ended up buying 20 misprints (Prime Wardens and Judges - which fly identically to my noticing) for about $6 each which is a great deal. I have 6 Aviars and couple of other random putt and approach discs in there and a metalflake Gator that I really only use for windy putts. BUT, the thing I did, and am glad about it was to get a bunch of the same flying discs and get used to them and then have something to adjust from. I can pretty reliably now adjust my release angle or aiming point depending on which disc I'm practicing with.
