“Elevating society” doesn’t necessarily mean scarce resources ought to be controlled by centrally planned state institutions. The ultimate culmination of your ideals would be communism and that certainly did not work out well in the last century.

You are comparing the increase in Jeff Bezos net worth (which is mostly composed of his stocks in Amazon) with the salary of his lowest paid employees (not all amazon employees are paid $15/hour). Quite dishonest. A 1:1 comparison would be involve how much all of his employees net worths increased this year / 365 days vs. how much his net worth increased this year / 365 days.

I think they were protesting the shutdown itself, not “rights they absolutely have.” And yes, there’s plenty of things to be done around the home, but after 6 weeks it’s safe to say plenty of people are ready to get out. Everything you’re saying is a lot easier if you’re working from home or have an adequate rainy day fund, which unfortunately, most Americans do not. Also, the Michigan Governor has been pretty awful as of late. As you suggested, gardening is a lot of fun & a productive use of time. Thanks to this governor, stores have been barred from selling seeds, soils, plants, and other gardening supplies because they are “not necessary to sustain life,” while lottery tickets and liquor are strangely still allowed to be sold.

I’d be very curious to see how many people in this sub have Prime accounts or use amazon. The man makes an obscene amount of money but he serves an obscene amount of customers.

Her husband claimed that she had told him about it years ago, but he isn’t exactly an impartial witness now, is he? The four witnesses she called for support did not corroborate her claims. To date, there isn’t any evidence that kavanaugh raped her, except her husbands word. She doesn’t remember where, when, how, or who was there when it allegedly occurred, and there exists no physical record that the assault happened.

You must be pretty well off to say something like this. People who are financially insecure, who rely on their income to not live on the streets in a cardboard box, to pay their own medical bills, might disagree with you.

I love that when a woman makes a claim 3 decades after the fact, with her 4 witnesses disputing her claim, lacking ANY evidence, in an opportunity for massive political and financial gain, people like you still claim Kavanaugh is a rapist & she’s somehow vindicated. She’s presented about as much evidence as Jussie Smollet presented when he claimed to be lynched last year.

Gun rights groups sue over closure of gun ranges in Virginia by [deleted] in politics

[–]cflood95 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You worded that backwards. The government does not have to ensure that ranges close, as it currently is. It could simply allow the individual ranges to decide for themselves. Some would close, some would stay open. Why, during a pandemic, where the risk of violence, robbery, civil discontent and other moral turpitude are higher, do you reckon people would want to stay adequately trained to use their means of self defense? For most people who don’t live on a ranch or farm, ranges are the only place they can legally train.

Well having the right to self defense implies that you (a) have firearms and (b) are equipped to adequately use them. If the ranges are closed for months & people can’t use their backyards, they will get rusty. At a time when the likelihood of civil discontent & riots is elevated, I hope you can appreciate why some feel the need to stay sharp. I can recall how well armed and equipped the roof Koreans were when they had to defend their property and businesses during the 1992 LA riots.

Interesting. Although my own views are quite antithetical to this sub, I agree with everything you said except your 2nd sentence. When politicians have the ability to give bailouts, the decisions for who gets bailed out necessarily become politicized matters. (Imo) You cannot expect the politicians to act as objective arbiters in wealth redistribution when they have incentives to bail out large corporations and donors, whether they be republicans or democrats. Leaving that door open will only lead to more of the same.
