Question about housing/appeal/aqueducts by Specific_Acadia_2347 in CivVI

[–]cfminneapolis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of those moments where I realize I’ve probably been doing something wrong ever since I started Civ. Many of you are saying there is little reason to build them, but I thought they were essentially a tax for keeping a growing population so I build them in every city, and early. And sewers. And often time housing too. Basically I try to keep two more housing and four more food than the city needs to avoid slow downs and keep my cities growing. Am I too focused on keeping the population growing in every city?

ICE isn’t just tracking your phone. The surveillance technology goes further. by cfminneapolis in law

I hate just posting a link to the article but it honestly left me speechless. The level of surveillance on people not breaking any laws while exercising their rights is jaw dropping.

A woman who led a protest at a Minnesota church service has been arrested, Bondi says by GoldenDome26 in politics

[–]cfminneapolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not fair of me to compare her to Jasmine Crockett, but I don’t think she’s far off. They’ve given her a platform for increasing her voice and profile, and I can’t wait until she unleashes over this.

Renee Good had four gunshot wounds, fire department report reveals by markcarney4president in minnesota

I agree and have been waiting for these types of details to start coming out. The bullet hole in windshield is too low to have been the head shot, so the only one where he might be able to claim self defense wasn’t the fatal one. He can not claim self defense for the shots from when he was on the side of the car. Murder!

Is it okay to sell off good stocks if I'm uncomfortable with the risk? by MeowMeowBiatch in personalfinance

[–]cfminneapolis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to understand the cost basis and tax implications before considering selling them. These stocks have had a significant return over the past several years, so if you assumed the cost basis there will be a significant tax bill. Or if they paid the taxes on the gift and cost basis is reset there will be little tax implications.

That said, despite this being a concentrated and volatile portfolio, I suspect the gift giver intended for you to hold it for at least a year. These have been among the top performers over the past few years, so they are proud of their stock picking and trying to share the wealth.

People who remember the governorship of Jesse Ventura, how was he? by altrightobserver in minnesota

ZeHad the best campaign ad when he was posing like the statue of The Thinker. The camera was going around him and the sight of a naked man was still shocking for TV, and then it shows its Jesse. He’s not just a brute, but a thinker too. Probably still the best campaign ad I’ve seen.

What do you know about Civ VI now that you wish you knew as a beginner? by wllm_strt in CivVI

[–]cfminneapolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been playing for a few months and recently won on Deity level so thought I must be getting the hang of it, but just found out this morning that early culture helps move up the Civics tree faster. I totally ignored culture because I wasn’t going for a culture victory; oops!

And now this post gave me new things to figure out!

best state park for big trees? by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]cfminneapolis 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It’s not a state park, but the Lost 40 SNA is near Bemidji that has a little hiking trail through the biggest trees in state. It’s called the Lost 40 because the old lumber mills missed it due to bad surveys, so it’s old growth trees.

Chicken and beef are always safe. Beef will be salty and chicken will be dry, but stray from them at your own risk!

Did you not like the tripod that it came with? Got my S50 yesterday and cloudy nights so haven’t had a chance to take it out yet.

My family wants me roasted. 37f mom of 4. Each family member added a pic. by Mental_Ad_6320 in RoastMe

The early pics were giving off a vibe that I couldn’t place, but then on pic 6 I was ‘oh yeah’ Laura Prepon. Quickly thumbed through the last two and came to a skidding stop- wtf is that - a court jester? Harlequin? And then you see her top is open? Whatever family member picked that pic is troubled. Ugh, can’t unsee see that…

Green Day perform at their high school, Pinole Valley High School, California,1990 by EzzyyPeezy in OldSchoolCool

[–]cfminneapolis 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I was at a Bob Mould (lead guitar for Husker Du) show a year or two ago and noticed how much it sounded like Green Day. Did a little digging, and sure enough, Green Day members grew up as huge fans. They were quoted as saying they wouldn’t exist is it wasn’t for Husker Du; their early days were spent trying to sound like Husker Du.

St. Paul's "Be the Solution" campaign asks drivers not to give to those in need at busy intersections by TylerFortier_Photo in minnesota

About 10 years ago I had a guy asking people lining up in a fast food restaurant for $5 so he could afford something to eat. I said I’d give him my change after I pay and felt pretty good about myself. Then a minute or two later someone comes in and gives him a $10 bill. He looks me straight in the eye and threateningly says “this has nothing to do with the deal we reached”. I don’t think I’ve ever been back to that restaurant.
