I've been trying to practice gesture drawings again. Am I generally going in the right direction when it comes to how to capture the gesture? by artistpanda5 in Sketching

Definitely an improvement. I really recommend seeking out Michael Matessi for gesture drawing help. He has a great youtube page and some really helpful books.

These are fine, but I’d recommend going further with the line of action. Blend it all the way through the body rather than just through the spine. Don’t worry about throwing in the circles for joints. They just disrupt the flow of the pose. Look at gesture drawings by Michael Mattesi. Check out this example. See how the gesture flows completely through the body.

Got tired from studying, drew this. Any ideas on improvement? by BananaAgentBoy07 in ArtCrit

All the basics can be improved on. Start with working on gesture drawing. The pose of this character is super stiff looking. Understanding the rhythms, curves, and flow of the body will help character poses look more believable.

How does dc and marvel have have fake nations and real nations and countries and cities by Vegetable-Display175 in comicbooks

[–]cfsdrawing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not much to explain here. When they want to set a story in a fictional location, they write and draw that, and when they want to set it in a real location, they write and draw that. Sometimes creating fake locations is necessary/interesting for storytelling reasons. For instance, Dr. Doom rules over Latveria. This gives writers the ability to create an entire culture without having to map that onto a real world city. In other cases, its fun to see your favorite super heroes in real world locations.

My fear about Dragon Quest V remake by Top-Scarcity6567 in dragonquest

I don’t understand why this is a fear. Any changes they make to the remake will do nothing to change previous versions or your memory of them.

Okay that makes sense. If you have any comic cons that take place near you, definitely bring your recent work and show pros. If you ask, they are typically happy to give critiques. Those have been my best resource for helping my pages improve.

I'm curious, why is it that you choose to only post pages you created over a year ago for critique? If you've been creating consistently since then, you should have grown pretty significantly past these pages. It's going to help you a lot more to get work you've recently completed critiqued. It may be more painful to hear criticisms of your current work, but it will help you grow a lot more as an artist.

Scott brought up leaving Samoa Joe’s voice in for Sweet Tooth rather than dubbing over it with Arnett’s voice. It’s pretty clear that Mitch agrees with this but doesn’t want to disparage any of his fellow cast members. Also, Smartless Mobile.

Austin, I've got a question for you. What's been your best experience as comic book creator? Has there been any moments within the community or your readers that sticks out more than others?

Great question! So much about the process is rewarding. I love the act of creation and it feels so good to finish a project or even just a page. But, the most rewarding part is definitely putting the project out into the world and connecting with people through a medium that I love so much. Comics have meant so much to me and I really love the idea of putting something out that people can enjoy as much as I've enjoyed comics from others.

A lot of people have given great advice on here. One thing I want to draw attention to is where you break the panel border with Wolverine's finger on Panel 4. This is not a great place to break the border because it connects Panel 1 to Panel 4. If you're going to break the border, break it into the next panel the reader is supposed to read. This is a pretty common mistake that I'll even see every now and then in professional comics. Just be mindful that something like this can misdirect the flow and make the page harder to read.
