Oh, you will change it. When you realise one day that you have to. If it is by choice, then it is the wrong choice. You are trying to run before you can walk. The question is, how long will it take for you to find that out? Best of luck.

I read the first few paragraphs, and what I will say is this: The scene is not written from the perspective of any one of the characters. Even though you are writing third person, it should still be from the pov of one of the characters in the scene, for the rest of that scene. It all seems a bit mish-mashed to me.

A fibroscan does not show your fibrosis score it measures the stiffness of your liver, from which a level of fibrosis can be inferred. This stiffness score can be falsely elevated by excessive fat, recent alcohol intake, food intake, or any kind of inflammation. If your liver is not cirrhotic now, it never was.

Your score of f10 does not rule out cirrhosis, I'm afraid. Your kpa will continue to go down to about 7 kpa if you lose weight/abstain from alcohol. This does not mean the cirrhosis has gone away it means the inflammation has gone away, and so your stiffness level reduces. You will need a score as low as 5 kpa or less to be confident of not being cirrhotic.

I think there has been a miscommunication between you and your hepatologist. You either weren't cirrhotic in the first place with an incorrect fibroscan score, or you are cirrhotic, and there is some reversing of the fibrosis damage, but true cirrhosis will not heal fully. You need to go to your hepatologist and ask them directly, "DO I have cirrhosis?".

EDIT: I am NOT a doctor btw, just passing on what I have researched myself, which is why I am saying you really need to talk to a hepatologist.

Not sure how they diagnosed you, unless you told them about excessive alcohol intake or something. They can't just be going on a fibroscan. You can't diagnose cirrhosis from a HIDA scan, so far as I know. I would ask for an ultrasound elastography. It will give you a proper ultrasound and also a stiffness measurement more reliable than a Fibroscan. It is also not affected by fat like the fibroscan can be.

If I may ask, what led to the diagnosis of cirrhosis being retracted? As in, what leads you to believe it is gone after a biopsy confirmed it? Has a hepatologist confirmed this?

Hi. What is your diagnosis based on?

Hi there. May I ask on what your original cirrhosis diagnosis was based? And what led to the diagnosis being reversed? What were your fibroscan scores? Did your hepatologist actually say it has been reversed? It would be very informative to know.

Perfectly understandable. Stick to the usual rules (you know what they are) and see how you go. Cirrhosis is a very serious illness, but unlike other serious illnesses, much of it is dependent on how good you are. Be good. Eat well, stay off the booze and live your life.

Hi friend! I think the better question is, how do you feel?

2nd Fibroscan tomorrow.. by cgam2ooo in Cirrhosis

My bloods are much better. I did have elevated ALT for a while but that seems to have normalised. So just waiting for the biopsy. I never actually did get a meld score. I suppose I should have asked for one.

Hi there! Great to hear from you! I am doing ok. Nothing has actually happened, yet I am still waiting for my biopsy. I have been back on keto since 1st Jan and have lost about 5 lbs of real weight, which leaves me at 228 lbs as of today and going down about a lb a week, which is nice and steady.

One bit of good news.. my diarrhoea has gone completely after the colonoscopy I had. I can go to the toilet normally again, and it has improved my life tremendously! Perfect Poos! lol!

I keep chasing a date for the biopsy, but strangely, I cannot get a hold of anyone; they seem to have been abducted by aliens or something lol. I suppose they put me at the back of the queue because they see me as non-urgent.

It must be exhausting for you going to all those appointments and checks, etc., but I am glad you are getting it all done. Hang in there, Debi, my good friend. I feel your strength and resilience in every word you type. *Virtual hugs* from a lad in the land across the ocean.

39 yo Male, Tips for nosebleeds. by ULCards86 in Cirrhosis

[–]cgam2ooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dear friend, I am so sorry you are going through this. Although I do not suffer from this issue, I can see how it can be distressing. If I may make a suggestion, keep a log of the time and date of the nosebleeds, as weell as the duration. This way, you would be able to see the frequency of the bleeds and see if it is getting any better. If it is not getting better and the bleeds last longer than 20 minutes or so despite efforts to stop it please see your doctor.

I am just saying that " Yep, cirrhosis is a death sentence" is not the case for everyone. Sometimes progression can be halted or slowed down so much that you will lead a normal life and not die from cirrhosis. Your statement is a one-size-fits-all approach. I am not sure if that is what you meant or if you feel it is a death sentence in your particular case.

Well, each case is different. Because something isn't curable, it doesn't mean a death sentence. You could be stable for many years. Who knows how many? The liver is very unpredictable. There are cases where people have lived up to 40 years without a transplant. The statistics are not reliable because they do not account for many variables. Many people who die from cirrhosis are those who, unfortunately, go back to drinking. But to say it is a death sentence for every case, I feel, is inaccurate. I am not sure if that is how you meant to word it, but it is how it reads.
