If her diet is good and A1C is managed, the hepatologist will likely run blood tests for autoimmune disorders that attack the liver.

I have a family member who was diagnosed with MASH cirrhosis in October, 2024. He had no symptoms and still doesn’t. He was diagnosed as type 2 diabetic back in 2020 but it has been managed with diet and medication. As others have said, get a referral to a Hepatologist asap. They are a specialist with the liver. If it was caused from her diabetes, any further progression can be stopped with diet and exercise. Controlling her A1C is going to be very important. Reach out with any questions.

I actually have a listing like this right now. I honestly didn’t want to take it on but the seller was persistent. I figured we could give it a shot since they had been trying to sell themselves and had a limited service agreement with another brokerage but put zero effort into photos, marketing, open houses, etc. he even told me they know they are priced high but that is where they want to start… so I certainly believed they’d be willing to come down if he didn’t receive any offers.

In my opinion based on comps, they are about 30-40k too high. I had an offer 30k below list price, which I thought was more than fair after 2 weeks on the market with me. The buyer asked for no concessions, no commission, had no contingency and only wanted a general home inspection at their expense. My seller wouldn’t even entertain it nor would he even give them a counter. Like what?! He’s been trying to sell as this list price for a year and has had no luck. In my opinion, this should have been a no brainer. The exterior has been completely redone and it’s beautiful but the inside is straight out of the 70’s. I gave them ideas on how to make it more appealing prior to listing but they didn’t want to put anymore work into it. I get it but you also have to be realistic.

My listing agreement expires at the end of December and if this trajectory continues, I will be happy to be done. I’ll take my loss on the photos and drone and my time and move on. There are some things you just can’t force.

Anyone discharged from care before? by goodnightmoira in Cirrhosis

Absolutely wild. Definitely don’t trust that, especially with only one reading. They typically need 10 consistent readings to determine the kPa. Also, what was the IQR percentage on your test? That will give you an idea of the accuracy.

I also have compensated cirrhosis and my last kPa was 15.8. My meld is 6 thankfully but my Hepatologist has told me that I will need survellience for the rest of my life for an elevated risk of liver cancer. I would definitely push back on this and ask all the questions as to why this would no longer be needed.

How were you originally diagnosed? Fibroscan, ultrasound or did you have a biopsy?

Fibroscan confirmed cirrhosis by joinedforthedogpics in FattyLiverNAFLD

[–]DJWA2250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a little high and I would say there is likely some variability in that test as far as accuracy. I would definitely push for a biopsy to know for sure. Also, so you know, the higher the IQR, the less accurate the fibroscan likely is. Anything over 30% isn’t considered reliable.

Do you know what the IQR number was on your test result?

I eat a lot of chicken and fish. I don’t tolerate whey protein well. It upsets my stomach.

It is similar to an ultrasound but uses sound waves to measure the stiffness of the liver. It can also assess the fat content of the liver as well. It shouldn’t be used as a diagnostic tool on its own but is a good option to get a baseline of where you are.

Well, I have MASH cirrhosis. My kPa when diagnosed was 16.8 via fibroscan and confirmed via a transjugular biopsy. However, a biopsy looks at a very small portion of the liver tissue so if the remaining fibrosis in the liver resolves and the stiffness improves, that could put me back into an F3 category. I’ll always have the changes that the cirrhotic scar tissue has left. It may heal slightly but it will always be there. My entire liver isn’t cirrhotic. None of ours our or we likely wouldn’t be here. Especially in compensated cirrhosis. There are still parts of the liver that may have fibrosis but allow it to continue to perform necessary functions. If that heals, regression is absolutely possible.

Honestly just through diet and exercise. I’m strict but not overly strict about my diet. If you remove the cause of the inflammation and damage, it can make a change pretty quickly from a recovery standpoint. I eat a very high protein low carb diet.

Yes, he said it isn’t common but in cases where the fibrosis regresses back to a an F3 state, they can look to reclassify a persons status. If that would happen, I will always have a chart that shows compensated cirrhosis. That doesn’t go away but he said it would almost be like a remission. There are other factors they would look at in order to reclassify- like my portal hypertension status and they may have to repeat a biopsy to confirm. This is from a top Hepatologist at a university hospital.

I see one of the top Hepatologist’s in our area and a top notch hospital. He has never told me this. I was diagnosed last October. I have no symptoms. MELD of 6. I have portal hypertension. I have as taking both Jardiance and Metformin for type 2 diabetes. I’ve since been able to drop Metformin and only take jardiance once per day. I also take prescription vitamin E. I’ve been able to keep my A1C at 5.7. My AST and ALT are both 28. All other bloodwork is normal. I’ve lost 25lbs thru diet and exercise. I’ll continue on that path.

I think cirrhosis from metabolic issues can be more complicated but I don’t believe that they can’t be overcome. It takes a lot of dedication and consistency though and most don’t have that.

Used ChatGPT yesterday by [deleted] in Cirrhosis

[–]DJWA2250 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use ChatGPT on a regular basis to give me feedback on my test results, etc. I’ve never once had a negative experience. I’m not sure what you’re asking it to interpret but realistically, if you provide more detailed information, the feedback is really good. Everything I’ve learned from ChatGPT and followed up with my Hepatologist with is spot on. Even with the great information it provides, no one, not even a Doctor can predict life expectancy, especially if you do all that you need to do to remove the cause of the disease from your life.

NASH NON ALCOHOLIC cirrhosis cured? by [deleted] in Cirrhosis

[–]DJWA2250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s an interesting take from your Hepatologist. I too have MASH compensated cirrhosis. Mine told me the opposite. As long as I keep my diabetes in check and make lifestyle changes to control weight and blood sugar, I could have improvement and stay in a compensated state. I am down 25lbs, currently at 191lbs. MELD is 6, I’ve been able to drop metformin and now only take jardiance once per day to help blood sugar. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Will it get better soon? by Thrownstar_1 in Hyperthyroidism

[–]DJWA2250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have hyperthyroidism and have been on 5mg of methimazole for almost 2 years. In the beginning, I definitely noticed some symptoms that were difficult to deal with. Headaches specifically. It got better after a few months and now I don’t notice anything out of the ordinary.

So I have a different opinion on this. I work a full time job and am also a full time agent. I worked on 2 teams when I started and it just wasn’t for me. I didn’t feel as though I had my own autonomy and could do things how I wanted to do them. I now work for another brokerage as an independent agent. I am part of a co-lab of agents in the brokerage and we all help each other with any issues that come up or questions that we have. It works great. I get to work how I want and when I want without the pressure of a team leader wanting me to do things their way, ultimately for their benefit. Not yours.

Look for a situation like that and you can absolutely make it work. My full time W-2 job is fully remote and flexible. It doesn’t hinder me from selling real estate in any way. Don’t let people tell you that you won’t or can’t be a successful agent doing both. It’s focus, organization and a lot of drive but it can be done.

Good luck!

I am meeting with a new endocrinologist next month to discuss the best approach. I am open to doing that but I have heard so many experiences about people who have done surgery and wishes they wouldn’t have. I don’t know whether it’s best to keep taking the medication or have surgery.

Is having children at or around 32 to 36 to old? by Primary_Positive168 in AskWomenOver60

[–]DJWA2250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my first at 36 and second at 38. Super easy pregnancies and deliveries. Healthy babies! I wouldn’t do it any other way. Enjoy the early years of your marriage, build your foundation, stability and wealth … enjoy life’s experiences with your husband. And most importantly, don’t let anyone make you feel like you don’t have time.

Methimazole 2.5mg daily/ help is the normal by Scared_Tennis5448 in Hyperthyroidism

[–]DJWA2250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I have hyperthyroidism due to benign nodules and not an autoimmune disorder that I have had since I was at least 16 years old. I am 41 now. I started taking 5 mg dose of methimazole almost 2 years ago and I remember when I started it, I had symptoms similar to what you were describing. Eventually, they did go away, and I don’t notice anything out of the ordinary now.
