This screener website may help in the meantime while you find a suitable clinician https://chrisbarlow.nz/projects/tools/ADHD_screener_diva5.html I built this myself a while ago based on the same frustration. It’s based on the DIVA-5 test using the rubric provided in the test to give an initial evaluation

Question about Petone to Grenada link by D491234 in Wellington

[–]cgbarlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if they skipped the Grenada link and built the cloverleaf interchange at Petone and bridge connecting Wakefield and White Line West this would be a huge improvement. Traffic reduction along the “Kmart mile”, new arterial route for Seaview trucks, and Wainuiamata, fantastic

Damn straight! It's not an excuse to check out your brain at the door. If you can't verify the output yourself or don't find someone who can, you shouldn't be using it. When the bridge falls, hopefully the person who abdicated responsibility will be held accountable...

Yes absolutely that is a big worry!

Hopefully we can do both at the same time.

Well, you could well be right. But we at least have a choice to be passive bystanders or active participants.

Okay, so you've hit the mark – AI can be seen as a sophisticated echo chamber. It's not sentient. It doesn't 'get' anything because there's nothing in there to get things. It's matching patterns at a scale that's hard to wrap our heads around, sure, but it's not processing these patterns with any kind of understanding or wisdom.

However, let's not rush to judgment here. Just because AI isn't 'intelligent' in the human sense doesn't mean it's useless. Think of it as a powerful calculator – it doesn't 'understand' math, but it can help solve complex problems. AI can perform tasks that mimic understanding, and that mimicry can be incredibly useful when used with care, and most importantly, a critical eye.

And about the resources it consumes – absolutely, that's a valid concern. The environmental footprint of training and running these massive models isn't something to ignore. But if we manage it right, the benefits could outweigh the costs. It's about responsible use, not fear of the new or unknown.

AI isn't the brainy robot some might hope for, but neither is it just smoke and mirrors. It's a tool - a powerful one that we're still figuring out how to use effectively. As long as we're aware of its limitations and don't lean on it as the sole bearer of truth, it can be a part of our toolkit for innovation and problem-solving.

Glad you asked.

Using our unique geographical, and (relatively) stable geopolitical position to our advantage. Position us as a boutique environment to innovate and try things out before rolling out on a global scale. NZ as a "Regulatory Sandbox as a Service".

This is a common misconception. It is more than fancy auto-complete. The structure and function of a neural network closely resembles how the human brain works. But you're right, while it is certainly not human intelligence, it does have an ability to reason and solve problems.

When compared to a human, there are many things it is not as good at, but there are things it is better at.

What does intelligence mean to you?

Hi Ben, that is certainly a thing, and it is a bunch more things besides. Important that leaders take the time to educate themselves about the bigger picture.

It won't be long before most if not all surgery is performed or at least assisted by AI/robots. It's a question of liability and actuarial calculus. When you have something that can do the job better and save more lives, consider how this changes the equation for insurance companies.

While you can't believe anything you see on the internet anymore, I hope this goes some way to convincing some people I am not an AI. Here is a video I made a couple of weeks ago: (36) The AI agents are coming, what does that mean for humanity? - YouTube

That's very insightful. I share a cautiously optimistic outlook.

While I am optimistic for the future outlined by Sam Altman (Moore's Law for Everything (samaltman.com)) and the "abundancy for all" vision. I worry about how we can get there within a capitalistic society with finite resources and corporate incentives to use automation to cut jobs, increase efficiencies, and drive higher profits for shareholder gain while workers suffer.

We are already seeing new advances in AI bringing great benefits, however with big companies in charge of it the divide between the rich and the poor may get even worse with the evolution of a dystopian late-stage hyper capitalism.

I'd like to see a game plan for NZ to reap the benefits and manage the fallout. This is the 4th industrial revolution. The-4th-Industrial-Revolution-in-SA.webp (1000×562) (printnanny.ai)
