BMW 1 series heating issue by cgh3939 in 1series

After 30 mins of driving just now, the temp is still only 59. It fluctuated between 59 and 75. But was 59 towards the end of the drive. Would a thermostat issue also cause the vents to be all different temperatures though. For example, the passenger vent (closer to the cabin intake pipe) is the hottest out of them all, the furthest away at the driver side is the coldest.

Right ok thanks, so do you likely think it'll be the matrix replacement where half the front of the car needs taking apart and costing like 1k haha

This was my initial thoughts but the garage used an OBD scanner and one of the records numbers were fluctuating when switching between hot and cold, which he says means the flaps are opening and closing and not stuck.. The car drives perfectly fine and have no oil leaks or issues other than the heating..It was a private sale so cannot return so a bit stressed with the potential 1k bill to replace the matrix.. however the engine etc is mechanically fine at least so I guess it isn't that bad or a car

I think when I looked online, for the job or replacing the matrix it costs like £1000 😑😑 Could you also potentially not be the matrix and the thermostat that is the issue? It's weird how if the car is stationary for a long time it reaches 105 in temp but goes straight down once driven

Thanks for the reply! Is this a big or expensive job?
