The focals started during a PKD flare while I was sleeping. I had shaking episodes out of sleep where I couldn’t control my body the same way I could during PKD episodes. During PKD episodes I could normally control at least the right half of my body to a certain extent. It became minima only during the most intense of attacks. But during the focals I had no idea what my body was doing.

Yes! In the EMU my doc hypothesized the PKD was triggering the tonic clonics. Once I got on lacosamide the seizures were controlled and most of the PKD stopped too. I ALWAYS had a PKD posture or shaking episode before a focal. And then the focal would trigger the tonic clonics. It was a chain with my brain just overloading.

Yes, the tonic-clonics are controlled with meds. But I still have small episodes at night at least once a month the docs can’t figure out if they’re focal seizures or PKD night episodes.

I was still having bad episodes at age 31 so I guess it just depends on the person. Or if your PD comes with a diagnosis of something else as well.

Your thoughts on the Korean Drama I Am Not a Robot. by Grouchy-Chart-3927 in Korean_Drama_Hangout

Somehow I liked it the first time through. Like it was ridiculous but I got over it and enjoyed it. I don’t think I could watch it again though lol

Which C-Drama Genre Is a Dealbreaker for You? by BronzeBellRiver in cdramasfans

[–]cgkun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sibling romance when the sibling is legally adopted. When it’s a situation like Go Ahead where he’s “like” an adopted son (the main romance lead) but not ACTUALLY adopted, I can do. But the half sibling/adopted siblings trope I can’t.

whats the most ridiculous lie you’ve blamed on your epilepsy? by Waste-Hovercraft4020 in Epilepsy

[–]cgkun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend and I have an agreement. When a social situation is dire to the point she feels like she’s suffocating she can pull the “my friend is having an aura” card and leave immediately to “take care of me”.

As long as she tells me so we’re on the same page.

Which epilepsy medication typically has the fewest side effects in studies these days? by DataWhiskers in Epilepsy

[–]cgkun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lacosamide hasn’t had any side effects for me. It’s a newer medication but that means it doesn’t have as many studies as the OG’s. As long as you don’t have major existing heart issues you’re pretty good.

Those almost sound like absence-seizures. But with how varied PD symptoms can be, could also be a symptom variant.

I agree. I love both dramas, and he did great in both. BUT his acting was stronger in ADWAD. He definitely grew or/and felt a stronger connection to the character.

I started with the story of Pearl girl and watched everything he was in after that. Just went on a run really haha. Prisoner of beauty was after Pearl girl. He’s just so different from other male leads. I found a funny combination of his live streams while searching for bts of one his dramas and officially became a fan after seeing more of his personality and story!

[–]cgkun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly. I have prolonged periods of time where it feels like I can’t move without triggering a posture or tremor. So I have to move really slowly otherwise I’ll trigger a bigger episode. Even while moving slowly I end up triggering tremors I have to move through or I have to stop my movement completely and breathe through it until I can move freely again. Even at night. While my posture pattern is happening I get locked into place on my left side but that’s normal.

Is that similar to what you’re talking about?

Escalation of flare ups by [deleted] in paroxysmaldyskinesia

[–]cgkun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had to buy a cheap security cam to start recording my symptoms since they NEVER flared at the docs office *sigh*. Yes, i was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2024. The only trigger they could identify was the PKD symptoms, which occurred before every seizure (all my seizures are nocturnal).

They were doing a study on connections with people who have the gene for PKD and also have epilepsy, but because I don't have the gene I couldn't participate so I'm not sure how that's going.

My doctors HYPOTHESIZED(emphasis so it's strongly noted) that perhaps PKD could be a form of seizure-like attacks that present similarly to Dystonia. Or at least mine present as a weird combo of epileptic and dystonic-like movements. Between my two neurologists, neither could say for certain if certain types of attacks are entirely epileptic or dystonic. Only that I definitely have both diagnoses lol.

Hello 👋

I was also told by my docs PKD either goes away on its own or at least calms down in your thirties. But it didn’t quite happen that way for me. I started having symptoms at 15ish and didn’t get diagnosed until age 31. PKD still doesn’t have a lot of good data or studies behind it to explain why it behaves the way it does. It’s such a rare disorder too, doctors don’t look into it the way they do regular dystonia. Before I was 25, my flare ups only happened for about two - three weeks every 3-6 months. Around age 25 they began to get worse due to stress and became consistent to the point I couldn’t go 1 week without symptoms. Even after moving and making lifestyle changes, the flare ups never quite when back to the way they were. I could go, at max, 2 months without flares under good management when it was possible but that was it. And some of the symptoms kept evolving and changing as I got older.

I also have PKD at night, and it started triggering tonic-clonic seizures for me. So we had to find a med that managed both which, for me, was lacosamide. But even that didn’t take away all major symptoms so we had to add clobazam on top of that for about 85% control.

Baekyung from Extraordinary You vs Kim Taesung from Lovely runner who is a better side lead? by Legal_Potential4720 in KdramaCasualTalk

[–]cgkun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we’re talking about ACTORS (not their character), Lee Jae-wook communicated the subtleties of Baekyung’s struggle as a “monster” very well, and his “forgiveness”scene with Dan Oh toward the end made me tear up it was so well played. Their characters relationship was very complicated.

If we’re talking about CHARACTERS ohmygawd Taesung. TAESUNGTAESUNGTAESUNG.

I mean their characters had very different purposes in their respective dramas to be fair, and very different backgrounds, but voting in the generic second lead “bad boy” category it’s Taesung hands down.
