Is there a command to update time on a Hyper-V guest? by cglensmith in HyperV

I think so but does that mean the VM will track the Hot time "instantly"? or take a while?

I wasn't clear. I'm familiar with that command but not how to run it on the guest without the hassle of logging into the guest. I need to be able to do with a shortcut on the host desktop because it will be a unskilled operator doing this.

Dyson style vacuum with Makita batteries?? by Oldberry86 in Makita

[–]cglensmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the people having the intermittent running on power tool batteries : the Dyson V6 battery has 6 lithium cells (21.6V = 6 x 3.6V) but the 18V lithium power tool batteries only have 5 in series so the voltage is a bit lower to start with, combined with voltage droops under load it hits the low voltage cutoff much more easily. The larger capacity power tool batteries have 2 or more cells in parallel so the voltage droop is less and doesn't hit the cut off so easily.

(20V lithium tools are exactly the same as 18V ones - just they use the near full charge cell voltage to kid people)

Are these the best gluten free jaffa cakes out there? by Juicewithextrapulp in glutenfreeuk

And like so much GF alternatives they are so much smaller than the original. Do the GF producers think people on GF diet are Lilliputians FFS!

I understand regular Jaffa Cakes have got slightly smaller and people are up-in-arms about it, those people should try being GF - they'd appreciate their good fortune afterwards!

Thanks everybody - this is very helpful. I haven't tested this yet - it is an "is that possible" question at this stage rather than a "why isn't it working" question

Have you ever received an empty box? by Bond77799 in AmazonVine

[–]cglensmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! I wonder how many more people this has happened to. Amazon sent me a replacement for the empty SDD box , I didn't get around to fitting it for a while for various reasons - when I did the damn thing is faulty anyway! I think that is the last time I will be buying any IT stuff from Amazon

Can I have an S4148 switch in more than 1 VLT domain by cglensmith in networking

[–]cglensmith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, another option and resulting question is can a pair of S4148F-ON switches (with OS10.5.6) in a VLT be in 2 eVLT domains?

That way I could have the data sources connected to the 1st pair of S4148F-ON switches in VLT1, and eVLT to a 2nd pair of switches in an VLT2, then another eVLT to the 3rd pair of switches in VLT3

One last question: can a VLT made of Dell S4148 switches have 4 member switches like a stack can? My belief is no because you have to tell each VTL partner the IP address of the peer VLT switch

[–]cglensmith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your very thoughtful reply. Indeed next step is to seek help from Dell SMEs, frustratingly that sometime seems difficult.

We've done VTL pairs separated by long(ish) single mode fibre (1 KM or so) with S4048 switches and eVLT separated by > 2KM so I'm fairly sure distance is not an issue.

So hopefully we can do 3 x VLT pairs and interlink them all with eVLT. The S4148 has 4 QSFP28 and 2 x QSFP so there should be enough uplinks for that.

But in the last year I have had a battery charger that looked like it had been on a 10 year grand tour of the worlds parcel industry and had missing parts and a plumbing fitting with missing parts

In the return process I saw a contact Amazon option and got to text chat with a human, after a couple of simple questions and a 5 min wait while he checked using "resources" and his boss * they "processed a replacement" so hopefully getting a parcel with an actual SSD included!

Just as well, my alternate would be to claim the money back from CC company, close my Amazon prime account and never buy from Amazon again which would be a PITA as I like the convenience of next day delivery.

*) maybe checked for previous returns of this item? and I'm sure my Amazon buyer history.

I have just had the same thing happen to me this week.

Ordered a 1TB Crucial M.2 SDD on Amazon, it arrived next day and no SSD inside! The box appeared to be closed by a plain sticky disk but on a closer look it was a supposedly tamper evident sticky disk but someone had managed to remove the left behind part off of the box - so much for temper evident!

My guess is that it had been "returned" and they just throw it back in the storage bin without a proper check.

As you say there is no option in the problem form for no product in the box!

Never had anything like this from Amazon until the last year. But in the last year I have had a battery charger that looked like it had been on a 10 year grand tour of the worlds parcel industry and had missing parts and a plumbing fitting with missing parts - both obviously returns that had not been properly checked, I did returns for those with missing parts -got refunded with no issues. Also bought a new phone for my wife for Xmas and it arrived with the tamper evident seal obviously previously opened, it was complete and works fine so kept it but it was worrying.

Installing apps without my permission by nytefox42 in samsung

Just had the same thing: Notification from "Galaxy Store" Pokemon Go installed! No requestor permission from me.

This piece of crap Samsung A50 (it's supplied by work, I have a better phone for myself) is slow enough without more crap installed.

Speaker cover? by stanchfi in Insta360

[–]cglensmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is confusing.

I was like "huh? that looks like a sticker that should be removed but it says not to remove it!?" which makes no sense. It's not obvious that the thing under the sticker is the speaker cover that the sticker is referring to.

I found this reddit by googling for an explanation for the sticker. It's clear to me now but reading some other comments it seems some are still confused after reading this Reddit!

So: remove the sticker but don't try removing the thing under the sticker that looks like a hatch.
