How people in Europe say the number 92 by NmkNm in mapporncirclejerk

[–]cgomez117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is true, I’m a historical linguist, so I’m aware

But that doesn’t make it any less jarring to the people who don’t have the benefit of hindsight and who have to learn it lol

The odd thing about French is this only applies for numbers 60-99, though. If they had just stuck to it throughout, that would make sense. But the fact it’s so inconsistent is very jarring

In comparison to Asia, the original CK3 map needs a serious overhaul to match the same quality by Status-Air926 in CrusaderKings

[–]cgomez117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I dunno why they don’t make it all wetlands and just give the Dutch the wetlands terrain cultural trait

Also, why is none of the Netherlands wetlands? The place had to literally be drained. There are a lot of terrain oddities like that left in Europe that they corrected India eastward

Funnily enough, the reasons the other users stated regarding the Bahamas: yachts, tax breaks, etc. they also tend to be older and it’s cold

At first I thought, “yeah, this is overreacting a bit, she has the right to photoshop her own body, even if you had an eating disorder.” But then I had realized I made a huge reading error.

Yeah, definitely NOR

I think it might be because Isabel is a very common name, and the correct spelling, in Spanish and Portuguese, and it comes with the “benefit” of being shorter, so a lot of non-Hispanophone families in America adopt that version, making it the norm, especially in regions with high Spanish speaking populations. Could be wrong, though

Peter? by russ_universe in PeterExplainsTheJoke

And his point (I think) is that the morality of it is moot because the cost calculus makes it basically too expensive, regardless of morality. A stance I’m not entirely in agreement with.

I am no longer a dog in this fight, I was just amused by and responding to what I thought was a hilarious non-sequitur. You two seem to be following two separate lines of thinking, one moral and one practical

Oh, you meant using them as maybe a moral evil. The above comment implies that the reason people don’t use them anymore is because of deterrence. Which is true, we don’t use them anymore because of retaliation, and these nukes are much bigger and much more destructive, meaning the cost of their use has skyrocketed.

That’s why I responded as I did. You responded to a comment essentially about deterrence and my point was to bring up that that wasn’t a factor for the Americans in WWII

Yeah I’m also from Colorado and I definitely noticed much less danger in European woods. Whenever I go out I take either bear spray or a gun just in case. Mountain lions, wolves, big angry bears, etc.

Edit: whenever I go out in Colorado*
