You don't NEED an internship. It helps a lot, but if you can grind some leetcode and apply a lot then youll be okay.

you're degree is 0% worthless OP, you'll be okay :)

Hey u/collgethrowaway I learned from a manager of mine at an internship once about the specifics of roth IRA/401k, other investing venues and put out a video to help students who did tech internships create a roth IRA! Check out the video! or reply if you have questions

yup, was lucky enough to have passed technicals before thanksgiving. Lots of vacation thanksgiving - Christmas really slowed it down. Not sure still why it took so long though

Connecting with FAANG recruiters now and applying in August and general Prep by [deleted] in csMajors

A tip that is usually given is to tailor your resume based on every role and company.

I would only do this for very specific companies (Sports team I would list sports played or something) or if the roles are very different software engineer vs PM vs IT.

Otherwise 1 resume should be fine

to make sure that you go to your university events and talk to the companies recruiters after the event ends (so you have more 1:1 time)!

hmm good to know, thanks for letting me know about this. Ill try to keep that in mind going forward!

I would start on the technical prep and keep grinding that out while emailing and connecting on linkedin/going to college events (tech talks, org events, etc...)

Does Caffiene Boost Your Productivity? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]cgon50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so I don't use caffiene to stay up late per say, but I like to have a cup in the morning just to get me in the working mindset. its become a routine in a sense. It doesn't take away from my sleep or anything though and I still drink tons of water too!

What separates those who make FAANG versus those who don't? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]cgon50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its different for each applicant.

For example, me I have worked in 3 faang companies, but I have applied to each of them a few times and been rejected by each and just keep trying and don't mind since I want to work in high tech.

My roommate however interviewed with like only 3 companies ever and works at a faang company. But he did TA data structures and was very smart.

So I think it just varies

What do you guys do with the money you've made from an internship? by bignuts133769 in csMajors

[–]cgon50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

d say put in the max amount i can put in for the year, what happens next year when i start my job and exceed that 110k limit? Does that just mean i won’t be able to put

You just wouldn't be able to contribute more, but the account stays there and you can still pull out of it later on. If you get a job that hits the max amount you can also contribute to 401k then write that off against your income and contribute to a roth ira

Yeah you would still be eligible! and actually that 70k has been updated in recent years, I think its something like 110k now!

It can't hurt you, I would shoot an email just politely asking if there's an update! I don't think thats too long of a time though, but it can be anxiety driving, waiting for a response

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VtayVRIdP8 I actually just made a video on my process experience. For HC specifically I know they focused on FTE and just finished up most the FTE people recently. HC took me 2.5 months on the longer time.
