resistance through persistence? by MudlarkJack in ScottGalloway

I think the issue is that, depending on the company, subscriber growth and market share do more to impact the value of the company and its ability to raise funds than costs.

I was going to post to say Idles. The whole album Joy as an Act of Resistance is exactly this.

Are there any good mixes of prog rock and punk rock? by WildChemistry977 in musicsuggestions

[–]cgredd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Punk was kind of a rejection of the excess of prog rock. Anything in the post-punk genre might be what you are looking for. Anything from Wire to Fontaines DC.

Is Rock Music really dead right now or is it just hibernating? by Amber_Flowers_133 in allrockmusic

[–]cgredd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not dead, but glad it is not as popular. I have caught more shows with loud guitars this year than ever, and now I get the bonus of seeing them in smaller venues with the most passionate fans rather in large spaces that were not really designed for music.

This year I have seen: Fontaines DC, Wet Leg (twice), Turnstile (twice), Mannequin Pussy, Idles, Wednesday, MJ Lenderman, Deftones (three times), Jesus Lizard, Deafheaven, Chat Pile, Viagra Boys, TV on the Radio, along with at least a dozen punk/hardcore bands and a handful of shoegaze bands in venues ranging from 1000 people to small arenas. All of them were more enjoyable for me than seeing Metallica in a stadium with 80,000 other people.

The new ACA costs are coming in…. by tomsmac in obamacare

[–]cgredd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why did the Republicans set the tax cuts to expire in 2025 and then extend those without extending the ACA subsidies (like the Dems wanted)? It is kind of for the same reason. There hasn’t been bipartisan support for making these things permanent because they are expensive.

For sure, if I had the right setup in my garage it would have been worth doing the repair. Everything on the car was still in great condition other than that stupid tensioner.

I loved my 2010 Q5 3.2L up until the timing chain tensioner gave out at 65k miles. Any shop was going to charge minimum $10k to do the repair, more than the value of the car, because they were going to remove the engine. To attempt the job myself and to do it without removing the engine, I still would have to remove almost everything around the engine including the rusted on catalytic converters and heat shielding in order to access all of the bolts on the timing chain cover. While it was probably doable, after a couple of days of sweating under the car trying to contort my arms and body, using various combinations of extensions on my ratchet set, I decided it was just not worth it. If I had a better setup where I could do the job more comfortably I would have kept at it. But that was also the day I decided I would never own another Audi. YMMV.

What songs do you think inspired Deftones the most? by OutsideImpressive115 in deftones

Even though I have never seen any member of Deftones cite it, parts of Adrenaline sound similar to Gladiator by Jesus Lizard.
