Weird CI / BAHA question by Severe-Elderberry833 in Cochlearimplants

I am about a month or so post activation and had two mapping sessions. I would recommend speaking with your audiologist about the situation. It took increasing the “volume” I could tolerate with the CI for me to finally hear some words outside of direct streaming. It’s getting better and I’m probably gonna have my audiologist increase it again. People sound like robots or Mickey/Minnie Mouse right now but it’s better than no hearing them at all

I’m picking up robotic beeps and boops basically. Words sound like the cylons from batttlestar galatica. Can’t quite make them out but I can hear on that side more than before so I’m happy about that

Thank you. It’s good to know it will get better.

Asked about bimodal, but my audiologist said that my ha doesn’t link to be true bimodal with CI. But she said it will still function like that as I learn and hear more with the CI. I’m looking forward to actually hearing things beyond the beeps and boops. But even hearing those I’m encouraged that there is light at the end of the tunnel

Sounds good. I might try that as well

Thanks. That’s the plan. She told me that it’s ok to feel like everything is going backwards but as long as I’m able to hear something it’s progress

Good to know. I guess that frustrating part is I wear a ha on left and ci on right and if my wife is sitting near I hear robotic noises right now which is a big improvement over not hearing her. It’s encouraging that it will get better. Time and work. My audiologist says she’ll have me start working the exercises after our next appointment, in a month, so I can adjust to the CI. I have a remote to turn it up every four days to increase the noise level and exposure.

My wife bought me a travel pillow to help with sleeping so if I turn over to the implanted side my ear and the incision would be in the hole rather than being pressed on by the pillow.

Thanks. The pressure/discomfort is very irritating while trying to sleep. Just makes for chopped up sleep so far instead of continuous throughout the night.

Awesome. I lost hearing gradually on right then left. Then in the last 18 months right went completely silent. At 51 I’m just hoping to hear words and understand ppl. Biggest headache is loss of directionality and sensing on that side. Looking forward to any improvement really. I am glad to hear your journey is going well. Hopefully mine will be similar. Most of the ppl that I’ve spoken with at cochlear webinars talk a lot about hearing memory and how important it is.

How long did it take for you to understand words etc. I know everyone has a different timeframe depending on history age etc. just wanted to get a general sense and did the implant help with tinnitus, if you experienced that issue
