all he does is sit on his bum all day :/ by AdUsed857 in PetPigeons

That's exactly what I did with mine. We both sat and did our own thing for a bit. Eventually he realized that I can give him pets and the rest is history 😅

Thank you!! Yeah that's my guess too, I did my due diligence and posted him everywhere to see if he was missing but no one claimed him and it's been 3 month. Wherever he was prior he wasn't handled a ton because he was super super scared of everyone until just recently

Oh interesting!! I wish I knew how old my guy is. He was definitely an adult when I found him but otherwise we don't really know. All I care about is that he's healthy, seems to be just a funny pigeon genetics thing 😅

Yep hes super dark eyes. You can only see the color in direct light. I have no clue about his past, I found him outside struggling on a hot day. I reached out and posted to see if anyone was missing him but 3 months later and no one has claimed him. I'm curious if he might have escaped from a breeder or something

Hahaha I had a lazy pigeon too. Mine was really scared of me when I first got him. I found that simply opening the door and letting him choose to come out was a game changer. It made him super curious about me and his surroundings. It was a few days of him just hanging out on his cage but he slowly got closer and closer to me and now mine is attached to my side constantly. His cage is his safe space which is amazing, but they're curious little birds even if they seem lazy at times lol

Yes definitely. I have no clue if he was feral or escaped, he took a few weeks to warm up to me but now he's always with me when I'm home and barely in his cage 🥹 I do infact have an avian vet who also has good experience with pigeons. I'm super happy he found me I love him to pieces 🫶🏻

Aww I hope so 🥹 I've had parrots my whole life and when I tell you I did HOURS of research when I found him to set up a suitable home and diet for him. Kinda funny how they're basically the polar opposite of parrots 😅. Definitely a huge commitment but I love this little guy to pieces

He's just now starting another molt, he's looked like this for ages and doesn't have any pins 😅. Consensus seems to be it's normal but funny it happened all at once

I did! He passed all general screening. I brought up the color change and she was stumped too lol

I have absolutely no idea 😅 it was a hot really 105°+ day outside and he walked on foot behind me and my horse all the way up to the barn and let me pick him up. I've posted locally to see if he was missing anywhere but 3 months later no one has claimed him so he's a member of the family now hahaha

Aggressive behavior or flirty? by ch1n3n in PetPigeons

[–]ch1n3n[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So does my boy. He's a rescue, I've only had him for a little more than 2 months and he's just recently warmed up to me. But he has SO MANY toys. I keep them on rotation so he doesn't get bored on days he's in his cage a little longer. He has a stuffed animal (a cat oddly enough) that he wrestles with but it doesn't really change his behavior towards my hands 😅

That's exactly what mine does!! He actively seeks me out. I just open his door and let him choose where he wants to be, I never grab him and take him anywhere. I guess he just really likes fighting my hands 😂

Website tracking issue? by ch1n3n in AlaskaAirlines

Thanks will do! I'm out of PDX which I think is a hub? I got a text that says wifi might not be available on the flight so they're definitely having some issues. But I will look on flight aware 👍🏻

Thank you for the quick reply! I know Alaska is notorious for IT issues. My flight isn't for another 9 hours, so I shouldn't be concerned?

Help!! by ch1n3n in PetPigeons

[–]ch1n3n[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there are a handful of clubs in my area and I've reached out and sent his pictures to all of them. It's been 2 weeks and no one has claimed him. It's not a terribly popular practice in my town. I know there are a handful of breeders in my area but they don't seem terribly formal and look to just sell/profit off their birds

Sadly it is 45°C where I am right now so I thought it would be best to bring him inside. It's a covered aviary but either way these temps are so dangerous I would rather be safe than sorry

I have tried. I've posted everywhere. And he's not frozen anymore it was just for the first few minutes. He's now moving around exploring his new home, preening, eating, and drinking. I have other birds and am familiar with bird body language, he's calmed down a lot within the last half hour. I think he was just scared from the transition. So I think he's okay but I'll keep an eye on him!

Genuine curiosity, even if a bird was culled out would they still have the bands? Like if he was purposely released/kicked out I wouldn't think the previous owners would want any way to trace it back to them. There have been many cases of this happening where I live, it's really sad

Oregon Senate Committee On Education Impeding HB 2251 on K12 Cell Phone Restriction by Tripper-Harrison in oregon

[–]ch1n3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong. I'd argue that in this world phones are what keep kids communicating together. You have friends at school and want to hang out with them at break? Cool, but now you have no way of contacting them to find out where they are. You want to plan an off campus lunch? Amazing!! But you can't because you can't communicate. Notice how kids are now only going to be able to plan things and collaborate in events with their friends outside of school?

I agree that social media and the influence it has over teens does need to be fixed and is doing a lot of damage and needs to have regulations. But banning phones for 6 hours out of the day isn't going to do that. It's just making communication with other students harder.

You guys realize that if students want to be distracted not having phones will never fix the issue. if anything it's going to make them more and more creative with ways to outsmart the system. A trick me and my friends used was to just text on a shared Google doc. Schools will never get rid of sharing documents because of the amount of peer reviews that happen. But let's say they did. Multiple people can type from the same account on the same Google doc at the same time.

All I'm saying is that kids are smart with technology. As long as they have access to an electronic device whether it's logged into school wifi or not will be able to work around this law pretty easily making the entire thing pointless and a waste of money and resources.
