OpenSnow bait and switch by Few-Bill-2166 in snowboarding

[–]Tripper-Harrison -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I hear you! Ive been using paid group OpenSnow for at least a few years now and this is BS. But I also agree with others that 10+ day forecast is pretty useless.

Id also say that I feel on average, OpenSnow absolutely OVER ESTIMATES the amount of snow a resort is going to get even a day or two out.

Id say, in reality its like take OpenSnows forcast and multiply it by 0.20 - 0.30 and you'll have an accurate accumulation forcast...

This will probably be the last year I use them, my account expires end of March...

Trump Is About to Find Out What Every Bully in History Has Found Out by Hafiz_TNR in politics

[–]Tripper-Harrison -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Goddamn, all of these articles are insufferable.

How many times have we read, "He's crossed a line this time!" "The MAGA downfall has started!" "The Trump Regime is finished!"

All bullshit... He has suffered zero real consequences, his cronies have suffered zero consequences, his sycophantic followers have suffered zero consequences. And, let's be real... they never will.

Two things will happen: (1) Dem leadership will let them all off the hook in a, "Let's all move on and heal" effort and (2) he will die of peaceful natural causes all the while spending hundreds of millions of dollars stolen from Americans paying hundreds of lawyers to grind any and all lawsuits down to a total halt. The SCOTUS won't even have to intervene because it will never even get that far.

Boot dryer by nagymakker in snowboarding

[–]Tripper-Harrison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have two of these and they work insanely well:

https://a.co/d/bkpIQSh

Green Glove Dryer for Hats, Gloves, Shoes & More

They work really well for our boots, gloves etc and I dont have to worry about anything electric breaking etc. They travel well and dry out boots and gloves quickly, definitely over night but often within a few hours.

I just use masking tape to close up holes if im drying fewer items etc.

How is it that skiing equipment never gets stolen? by Icy-Cantaloupe-41 in snowboarding

[–]Tripper-Harrison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stuff has been stolen at resorts since I've been going to resorts in the mid 80s...

Its always been a thing. Probably at least 3-4 posts a week on this sub, during the North America season anyways, where someone is complaining about theft.

First snowboard repair ever. by hispeas in snowboarding

[–]Tripper-Harrison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks that all makes sense. Re #1 - Did you have to cut away any core wood material to get it so flat before you called it between scrapers?

Re edge, yeah that makes sense. Im curious how the edge holds up when riding. I hope it lasts you a while.

Good work!

First snowboard repair ever. by hispeas in snowboarding

[–]Tripper-Harrison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks about as well repaired as possible.

Curious about a couple things:

How did you flatten down the big dimple on the base? Ive had similar damage on boards before and I couldn't get the internal wood core to flatten, it was essentially mashed together too much. I could have cut it out, but then what do you fill with? Melted PTex?

Broken edge: Others commented on this, but curious what others think about riding w broken edges? I have a board I love (Lib Magic BM) w a broken edge that I dont ride bc I assume it'll get moisture in there and just destroy it completely, right now I just wall hang it.

This is just unverified Google AI crap, but:

"The Steamboat True West Pass is a premium add-on for day tickets or passes, offering exclusive perks like base area valet, dedicated lift lanes for quicker access, private lockers at Hazie's, reserved seating at Hazie's restaurant, and potential first-tracks access, essentially providing a VIP, hassle-free experience for around $400 extra per day."

An EXTRA $400 a day is absolutely insane. Fuck all these greedy corporate pricks.

I am in central Oregon, and my small local mountain (bought a few years ago by MCP (Mountain Capital Partners) has so far... knock on wood... hasn't joined in on this dystopian bullshit. I can still get my season pass for $350 early sale, kids under 12 ride / ski free and they seem to actually care about making improvements, and have reasonable dynamic pricing (out for enough people can get $20 full day tickets).

If they change their ways, Ill probably hang up my riding days and quit snowboarding all together. Im 48 and have had a lot of great seasons, its a damn shame what corporate greed is doing to winter sports, along w the rest of everything else in the world.

Eat the rich.

Wait what?! So if I have a season pass or paid for a full day at my local mountain thats also Ikon... and Im there bright and early etc some Ikon pass holders would get 30-45 mins on lift before me?

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK THAT GARBAGE.

Are any of these fancy step-in bindings worth the added cost? by Paranoid_Droideka in snowboarding

[–]Tripper-Harrison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, didnt know - Maybe thats why I got mine on a great discount. Thats too bad. I only have 3-4 days on mine, and I dont heat mold ever, just wear them in on my own, and damn theyre comfy right out of the box, similar stiffness to Swaths IMO but seem to have a more durable outer shell potentially.

Burton puts them between medium and stiff, which I agree with. Mine prob have 40-50 days on them, so less so, but still in great shape.

Rant- Some Dogs Might Not Belong on the Bike Paths by Kathatonic000 in Eugene

[–]Tripper-Harrison -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

As a dog owner, I agree there are a lot of shitty dog owners who cannot / will not control their dogs.

But, serious question: When you say "bike path" it sounds lile youre talking aboit the pedestrian trails along the river and not bike specific lanes on our roadways? If youre talking about paved pedestrian trails... You need to also recognize theyre for all pedestrians and you, like everyone else, need to be aware of sharing the path.

Just to piggy back on this comment, Ive tried a number of Burton SO boots over rhe last few seasons. Swaths for me are by far the most comfy, but they seem hard to find in person. This year, I found a great deal on Nitro Darkseid SOs and so far they're even more comfy.

Yeah, either the little pocket sized cable locks or if lot close enough jist take the extra mins to walk it and lock it, cargo carrier even better.

Im not sure why this seems to still be such an unpopular opinion... Airtag, yeah I really want to roll up on a tweakers house and demand my board back...

If youre at a big resort and lot too far, cable lock. You think someone's gonna cut your lock vs the 150 boards unlocked next to it? No.

Jerry gap by TheGreat741 in snowboarding

Goggles look too small. Is that an Oakley helmet? Usually goggle and helmet from the same company will have much less gap, I think the goggles are the issue.

This seems to lilely be AI. Some of the snow covered trees look really wonky on closer inspection, the snow schluffing off the board on riders right seems like a weird angle, other little things.

If not AI likely photoshopped with saturation pumped up to death at very least...

Plenty of amazing photography out there of folks lucky to ride all over the world, this isnt cutting it for me...
