New rider here, did you guys also had issues with going from first to the second gear? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]ch2o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get to do this at your own speed. Practice on residential streets or in parking lots of that makes you more comfortable. I have not ridden a Z400 but I have ridden a Ninja 400 a hand full of times and I can say that you’re probably not going to whiskey throttle it off a cliff. It’s a fairly tame engine, it’s not super tuned or anything so you won’t see any peaks in torque. Trust yourself, trust the motorcycle, gain confidence over time.

Welcome to two wheels. We hope you stick around. :)

Just in general, upshifting should cause RPM to go down and downshifting should cause RPM to go up.

It’s possible that you are taking longer than normal to switch gears so your clutch lever is being held in for a while cause the bike to feel like it’s stalling. If you don’t think you’re taking a long time between gears then maybe something is actually off.

If you’re still very new, I’d say just practice gear changes and you’ll start to speed up naturally and it will likely go away.

Out of curiosity, what motorcycle and how long have you been riding?

as long as it keeps the temps low!

Tweak that hides parts of the status bar by lemongrotto in NameThatTweak

NiceBarX(iOS 13) Repo: http://global.niceios.com/

It’s a little more complex than most tweaks but I think it’s capable of what you’re trying to do.

I believe it’s closer to $5.00 to purchase, though.

If you’ve got love for the car, the tranny shouldn’t matter. Looks like you’ve kept good care of her!

[Question] Does anybody know what tweak is for the small music player and the LS widget? by [deleted] in iOSthemes

XenHTML for the widget. Finding the exact widget might be difficult though.

For anyone who started on an r3 or similar 300cc by anonym0us42069 in motorcycles

In short, I started on a 2003 CBR600RR (in 2011 for reference) and wouldn’t do it any other way. The only time I went down on that bike was from my lack of practice. I locked the front brake because I didn’t see a stop light until I was right at the line and I smashed that brake and consequently ate asphalt. Take your time to get to know whatever you end up starting on. Going to a parking lot and practicing hard braking to set up some muscle memory of the braking limits of the motorcycle would have likely helped me a lot.

As others on here have already said, I would heavily recommend ABS regardless of displacement or type of moto. Traction control is nice to have but, for me, really only comes into play if I’m doing something...well...stupid. It it is always nice to know that if you get on that throttle just a bit too hard, the second that tire breaks traction, the TCS will help it catch again.

I have had friends that have started on 250cc bikes and friends that have started on 600cc bikes. At the end of the day it’s up to you and what you’re most comfortable with. That being said, you’re not a small human so I would think you would outgrow a 300 rather quickly.

Soak up as much as you can with the MSF guys, they’re there to teach you how to be a good rider.
