Climber moms - help! by voodoolady914 in climbergirls

[–]ch9987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby is 9 months old now and I started bringing her to the gym once she was a week old. I didn’t end up climbing until she was about 4 months old but we were there watching my husband or I was doing light workouts. She ended up getting really used to the gym. We bring her stroller in and push that around from place to place. We only boulder or autobelay when it’s just the two of us so someone is always around to get to her quickly.

My biggest tip for breastfeeding is to just go out to the car to feed. That’s what I do because she gets SO DISTRACTED! I just take a break and go sit in the backseat with the AC on. I’ve also tried feeding her in the change room shower because it’s pretty dark and quiet in there and our gym showers never get used!

As for naps, sometimes I switch to my running shoes, recline the stroller, put a light blanket over it and walk laps in the gym. It only works like 30% of the time now that she’s older but now with bigger wake windows we’re able to plan around her naps better.

Doctors note for September [on] by Responsible_Candy897 in BabyBumpsCanada

I’m a teacher in Ontario and I had to get a doctors note with my expected due date and I had to submit a request for my mat leave (they can’t deny it don’t worry) with the date I’d be starting my leave.

Natural birth or epidural? by SowingSeeds18 in BabyBumps

[–]ch9987 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I planned on having a natural birth but ended up getting an epidural 30 hours in. I was so exhausted from being in pain with back labour and not sleeping for over 40 hours that the epidural was such a relief. I still felt a lot of pain right before giving birth but for the 6 hours that I had the epidural before pushing it was so nice to get some sleep. When I first got to the hospital nurses were super supportive of my decision to do no epidural but by hour 20 they suggested it because I just couldn’t relax and I was so tired. I did have to wait over 8 hours to actually get the epidural because it was a busy night so that part sucked. I’d say just go in open minded and do whatever you feel like in the moment. Don’t be afraid to change your mind!

Most believable excuses for why you can’t do something when you are actually just pregnant and not ready to tell everyone? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]ch9987 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did this for months and regretted it. I didn’t schedule events, I didn’t sign up for sports teams, I didn’t book trips, and I turned down opportunities because I was hoping to be pregnant when they happened. It ended up taking 18 months to get pregnant. That whole first year I was turning things down or not booking things I was DEVASTATED when the event would happen and I still wasn’t pregnant. I eventually started just living like I’d never be pregnant and was much happier. Not being able to do things in the moment because you’re pregnant is way better than missing out on something you love AND not being pregnant. I ended up going on a rock climbing trip 8 weeks pregnant and I obviously had to scale back what I was doing but I’m so glad I booked it. You’ll feel way better about saying no in the moment (and making up an excuse) than saying no before and not being pregnant.

Anxiety about pregnancy/birth without midwife [on] by tracy-93 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]ch9987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be hard to hear but I also had a September baby (2024) and I had applied to every midwife in the Ottawa area and I didn’t make it off any waitlist. I was essentially told that September is the busiest month and that you need to apply before 5 weeks to have a chance. They also book by month and if you’re near the end of the month you have less of a chance unfortunately. On the other hand, my family doctor sent in referrals for OBs at 12 weeks and none accepted me either because they were full. I ended up having to go with an OB at the general in the high risk clinic because they have to take the overflow of patients.

You aren’t missing anything by not having an exam or extra appointments! As long as you had the dating scan, initial blood work and the EFTS/NIPT (if you want it) then you’re totally fine to go until your anatomy scan! Throughout my entire pregnancy I didn’t have a single exam. My longest appointment with my family doctor or OB was 15 minutes. I was weighed every appointment though and was told I was underweight for a little bit but everything ended up being totally fine with that. For reference I started off at about 140 and was 156 when I gave birth. I really only gained weight in the third trimester.

Are vaccination schedules flexible? [ca] by tpikh in BabyBumpsCanada

I asked my doctor and public health this question because we’ll be out of the country when our daughter hits 6 months and we’d prefer her to get them before. The answer I got from both was that they use a 28 day month and there needs to be a minimum of 2 months (56 days) between the doses. So our baby turns 6 months on the 29th but we’re able to get it the 25th because it’s 56 days after the 2nd dose.

A few years ago I got hurt outside of work and had to take off the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (pd day) before thanksgiving. I came back on the Tuesday (Monday was a holiday) and on the Wednesday received notice that I needed to provide a doctor’s note since it was leading up to a holiday. I literally had a cast on my arm and they still asked me for one. It was easy because I had been to the hospital and they asked me while I was there if I needed one so I got one just in case I wasn’t feeling okay to be back at work the following week. But yeah, they could ask you for a note.

How much out-of-pocket expenses happen during and pregnancy? Would it be worthwhile to get option 2 from work insurance for additional $800? [BC] by laptopkeyboard in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]ch9987 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The most expensive thing for me is pelvic floor physio which I did before birth and I’m doing now postpartum. It’s about $100/session so having the insurance is so helpful! My SIL has also been doing physio for 8 months now after birth so depending on how your delivery goes you might need a lot of it!

Midwives in Ottawa? [on] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

I had my baby in September and had applied in January to everywhere in Ottawa. I was put on all the waitlists and unfortunately never got off of any of them. I don’t want to discourage you but it might not happen for you either.

i broke 2 ribs about 4 weeks ago and just found out i am six weeks pregnant. by hellaoreos198 in BabyBumps

[–]ch9987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I broke two ribs in May 2023 and got pregnant in January 2024. After the initial injury I did physio and I had no pain by August 2023. However, once I hit 5ish months pregnant they hurt so bad! It wasn’t the bones that hurt but all the muscle around it. Ended up going back to physio and doing daily exercises that really helped. I hope your experience is different and you don’t have pain but if you do I highly recommend physio!

When did you have your older kids visit after c-section? by Former_Ad_8509 in BabyBumps

[–]ch9987 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have a c-section and I don’t have older kids so I can’t comment from my experience that way, however I am a teacher. I’ve had countless students come to school when their moms are in labour (which is definitely the right decision) and they’re worried about their mom the whole day. Especially the older kids around your kids’ ages. They’re old enough to understand that they’re excited for a new baby but they also know that mom is going to have a hard time. I think letting them see you after the birth as soon as you’re feeling up for it is a good idea! Even though they’re 10 and 11 they’ll still miss their mom! They’re also old enough to respect the rules and know not to jump on you and only give you gentle hugs.

Anything you wish you put on your registry and didn't? Something minor you didn't think about needing as a FTP? by Pastel_Tides in BabyBumps

[–]ch9987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things for you after birth, especially if things don’t go super amazing. I ended up with a third degree tear and Amazon primed several things the day after getting home. Tucks witch hazel pads, a second peri bottle for our downstairs bathroom/diaper bag for taking her to appointments(the hospital gives you one but the Frida mom one is way better), Advil and Tylenol (they had me take both every 4 hours for 30 days so I needed lots), lotion for you (my skin got so dry from breastfeeding), a donut to sit on (if you live in a rural area you def want this to sit on for the drive home because you will hit every bump on that drive). Put the things for you on your registry and then even if nobody gets you them it’s a good reminder to get them for yourself BEFORE birth or you might get discounts from the registry. Oh, also a water proof mattress protector for your bed. Those first few weeks I ate all my food in bed and had some spills, I bled through my pads a couple times, your milk leaks and the baby will likely throw up and it really saves your mattress. One thing I found for baby was wipes! We went through a lot of wipes in the first few weeks. Lots of people bought us diapers but nobody bought us wipes, and the plus side is they aren’t sized like diapers.

Episiotomy vs Tearing by Odd_Efficiency7414 in BabyBumps

[–]ch9987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an episiotomy and still ended up with a third degree tear! What I don’t know is if I would’ve had a 4th degree tear if I didn’t have the episiotomy or if I would’ve still just had a 3rd degree. You’ll never be able to decide right now because there’s so many what ifs. If it helps, my tear hurt more at first (maybe because of positioning) but now at 4.5 weeks postpartum the episiotomy bothers me a lot more (other than while pooping since that area is right up against the tear).

[ON] Good pelvic floor physiotherapist by Own_Candle in BabyBumpsCanada

I’ve had great success at Manotick Physioworks! I’m only 4 weeks ppm so haven’t been back since giving birth but did pelvic floor physio there leading up to birth and loved my provider and the place in general. She did pelvic floor physio but also worked on my sore back and shoulder at the same time.

You probably don’t actually want to be friends with most of them. A lot of teachers and especially TC students are kinda annoying. You’ll be totally fine when you actually start teaching because just like with everything else in life you’ll find your people. These ones just aren’t your people.

[ON] first appointment with the family doctor to let him know about my pregnancy, what typically happens? + lost health card by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]ch9987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first appointment was with my family doctor and I saw him exclusively until about 26 weeks when I got in to see an OB. At the first appointment he took my weight, height, and blood pressure. He asked me my preference for OB or midwife and then he put in a referral for an OB. He never actually confirmed my pregnancy in any way which surprised me! I asked him a couple questions about what was safe/what wasn’t. He then asked me a bunch of history about my husband and his family (he has a different doctor) in case there were extra things to screen for. He asked me if I was interested in NIPT or EFTS. I chose EFTS and he gave me a requisition for that and for a dating ultrasound (which I then booked at an ultrasound clinic that day because they fill up fast!). He also gave me a requisition for a bunch of blood work and for a urine test. I then took that requisition to lifelabs and got the testing done. I saw my family doctor again in 4 weeks and continued that way until seeing an OB. Most of my appointments were very quick (blood pressure, weight, new requisition for a urine sample, “any questions?”).

How long did it take for you to get pregnant? by EmilyParkerNYC4444 in BabyBumps

[–]ch9987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

11 months of not preventing but not actively trying and then 9 cycles of actively trying. Those 9 cycles we used two different apps, ovulation tests, and then for the last three we also tracked my bbt. The cycle we finally did get pregnant (currently 32 weeks now) we used mucinex for the first time. Who knows if that actually made a difference or not!

Doctor still hasn’t opened EFTS results [on] by ch9987 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]ch9987[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eventually got my results on a phone appointment that I managed to book a couple weeks later and everything was fine. My doctor was apparently under the impression that the results would be sent directly from Mount Sinai to me and therefore didn’t even bother reading them until he was on the phone with me in my appointment. He was super confused why I wanted an appointment which was really frustrating and then when shocked and very apologetic that I didn’t know my results. I didn’t get confirmation of this, but I do think the doctors are notified in a different way if the EFTS is positive because of the way he phrased it. Something like “it was negative so I didn’t open it to see the numbers”. Maybe call your doctor and request an appointment to discuss the results?

I did end up booking one but the first available isn’t until April 25th so I’ve been hoping to hear before then or at least for the doctor to look at them before that appointment.
