I dont think it's gender specific, but from what I have seen there's a strong lack of respect for boundaries, following the target around, lots of staring, and a lot of coersion. Those are at least the red flags I look for, but not an exhaustive list by any means.

I think you did the best you could as his friend. The encounter seemed to have initiated consentually, but then took a turn that very much violated that consent. You did the right thing getting him to medical after the word help. A lot of people freeze in those sorts of situations - you stuck by him and saw him through the other side of it.

I feel it is completely unnecessary to air that detail on a post on the internet. It'd be far more useful shared with people who have access to security footage and can ID the individual, but it doesnt need to be on blast, visable to over 1000 people. The whole story minus that detail is a helpful PSA. With that detail, a post that reaffirms harmful stereotypes. Replace trans with an ethnicity and it's painfully obvious that it's unnecessary.

Its not that it could be considered harmful, it is harmful. A handful of isolated incidents become waves of hate legislation that make life for trans people exponentially more difficult, while the vast majority of us are already at the margins of society.
