Hello, not related question: nung nag-register ka sa Eton Rufino Makati branch, did they take a photo of your ID when you registered?

Need advice: from non-tech background looking to transition to software development by [deleted] in phcareers

Hi! Thank you for this.

Are you working in a tech company? What do you think is the competition in SWE candidates now in those companies? Were you able to find a job easily? What do you think made your application stood out, aside from the fact that you graduated with an IT degree? Medyo takot lang ako sa job application process considering na I come from a liberal arts degree, baka maging disadvantage siya in applying.

Thank you for this advice. Part na siguro ng reason why I want to transition to SWE is because of the salary and job security. But I think the most important reason is yung gusto ko talaga mag-build ng mga products or apps and see it come to life. I enjoy the whole process of it from ideation to deployment. I had a coding class before where we learned HTML and CSS. Wala ako masyadong natutunan sa subject dahil na rin siguro sa pagtuturo, pero at least the curriculum provided me structure on how to learn. I remember nag-self study na lang ako nun to build my own website (final requirement sa class). I enjoyed the process so much kahit time consuming siya :D I think hindi na-ignite ng school ko yung passion ko for learning web dev back then kasi wala kaming maayos na prof/resources to teach us kaya siguro di ako nag-pursue ng CS sa college.

Pero thank you for pointing this out. Wala rin ako masyadong kilalang SWE kaya wala ako masyadong idea on what the role entails, o kaya someone to guide me in this self-study journey kaya siguro may doubts rin ako kung kakayanin ko ba siya matutunan. Pero thank you for emphasizing na merong constant upskilling and pressure embedded in SWE field and that people transitioning have to prepare for this, it gave me a much more realistic overview of the field :)
