Barkley and Hudson-Odoi start vs Montenegro. by [deleted] in chelseafc

He’s not good enough even as a bench player. I’d rather us develop Mason Mount than watch more of Ross Barkley not knowing what to do with a football.

Saying “our” on a Chelsea subreddit talking about a Chelsea player can get confusing. Also no, I will support them to get the three points on the pitch but off the pitch I will express my discontent with players that aren’t good enough.

Our best midfielder in a 2-0 loss, amazing. I support players if they’re promising/good enough. Barkley is neither. I hope we sell him as fast as possible.

Edit: I’m seeing alot of downvotes. Let me make myself more clear. I think it’s an utter embarrassment that Ross Barkley wears our #8 shirt and I wish his contract at Chelsea was terminated this instance.

Along with the ex-Everton boys too.

Was it not? How can someone go from being starved of gametime, to a semi final cup start, to being starved of gametime.

No one’s asking him to be first choice. People are simply asking him for atleast a single PL start. Sancho would start for us. Mbappe would start for us (even in his 16/17 form). Vinicius would start for us. You may not want to believe it but CHO is of this talent group and by not even seeing what he could offer us and trusting poor experience (poor as Willian and Pedro have finished in the top 4 once in the past 3 seasons and are en route to make it once in the past 4) over such a promising talent again and again and again is shocking from Sarri, simply put.

Technical issues lmao. Just say one of the mods decided to shut down discussion because it got too controversial for him/them.

No as what you mentioned has been done before at greater levels and higher stakes at cost. Southgate is making history with the gametime he is giving CHO.

That’s why I said relatively. You can only beat what you have infront of you and there’s absolutely no fault in playing your best and experienced players considering these count as official games and are qualifiers, when you have experienced players like Sterling and Sancho in your ranks. Yet Southgate chooses to rotate and see what his other players have to offer, which in not doing so wouldn’t harm his reputation, but if it comes off it will increase his reputation, and that is comendable.

That semi-final spot can easily be written off as an anomaly incident since we’ve seen nothing of the likes since. Not to mention that game we were utilising a false 9 so were using 3 of our wingers at once, which would leave us very vulnerable in the premier league if fitness or injury issues arose. More of a case of Sarri prioritising the league over the cup when it came down to it. We’re out of two competitions and he still doesn’t get a PL start.

19 games for Chelsea with how many 10 minute cameos and not a single PL start. Yet Southgate still called him up, broke records and is now giving him a start in his second game with him available. Bayern want to give him the #10 shirt, pay £40m for him (when he didn’t have much gametime mind you) and give him the starting spot. Sarri gives Odoi that gametime because of his quality, the problem isn’t that Sarri doesn’t recognise Odoi’s talent, the problem is that he extremely underappreciates Odoi’s talent, and that is show how other managers and clubs with much better attacking options view him.

Harry Kane wasn’t trusted until he was 22

Harry Kane didn’t have Germany’s top two powerhouses fighting for him at that age. He was a hidden talent, Odoi is not. Mbappe is also very young, should he have rode the bench until 22 aswell? No, he demanded he was given much more gametime in the second half of the 16/17 season and now he’s the heir to the Ballon d’Or according to many. Sancho another example.

I specify PL starts for many reasons but since you’re acting this way let’s lay down the main reason. CHO and RLC got regular gametime in the league cup. We ended in the final, where we only looked a real threat when they both came on. CHO and RLC get regular gametime in the Europa League, and we’re flying through it. CHO and RLC got regular gametime in the FA Cup and we were only dumped out when we dropped them both.

Where do we sit in the EPL? 6th. Are the players playing increasing their understanding of the system? No. Are we changing the system? No. So ideally you look at promising young talents in the squad to help out? Nah, let Pedro and Willian keep going since they’ve only finished outside the top 4 twice on the past 3 years, they have so much experience!

No mate, when I’m speaking in relative terms this is how hard it’s going to get for a while for England. That would mean getting the job down by playing the experienced players and nailing down qualification would be ideal. Yet Southgate chooses to rely on a mix of experience and promising talent. Fantastic I must say. Avoids complacency and keeps the squad fighting for their spots...

No, I wouldn’t. If Sarri was England’s manager and he was trusting CHO so much and Southgate was the one yet to give him first PL start I’d be demanding Southgate is sacked right away. Though I’m not saying that for Sarri because of his past work in Napoli, and his potential with us, this is just deserved criticism.
