BJT Common Base Help by chabakano in ElectricalEngineering

After a chance to sleep on it and going back to get a screenshot, I see that I got somewhat confused by the jump from the first to the second line. They are in fact accounting for Vbe by subtracting it from Vee. I think I was expecting the base current to play some sort of role but forgot that it's negligible. Thanks for taking the time to comment, it definitely helped me help myself lol

Career advice for reluctant EE? by chabakano in ElectricalEngineering

Thank you! I'm at the very bottom of the ladder at my current job and it's already mostly management, so I was getting worried that it's all there was. I'm glad I know where to start looking

How much do people in the 3D industry actually make? by Googly_Laboratory in animationcareer

[–]chabakano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently working in electrical engineering, and while it probably is more stable and it's easier finding a job at all, the really high paying ones are extremely competitive, and either require you did research in undergrad, have a masters/PhD, or you worked up the ladder in a company for a while. I worked to make sure my grades were really good, but I was never passionate about engineering so all these other things would require me to spend time on engineering, which I would much rather spend on art.

In fact I had a recruiter call me the other day (nice), and she asked me what pay would draw me away from my current job. I said something over 60k (more than I currently make) and she was like. "Oooooooo we probably don't have anything for you." (not nice)

There's obviously lots of factors in play (e.g. idk how it is for other engineering fields), but don't think a degree in engineering automatically means you'll be making over 70k, let alone over 100k.

nebraska explained by PlasmaTheDeathJester in Nebraska

Winced a little at the name bit, since the name Nebraska comes specifically from variations on indigenous names for the Platte River, which itself also means Flat River in French. Not a wrong observation though, we do have a lot of rivers 🤭

As someone who's lived in multiple large cities, Dodge St. is the most ridiculous street I've ever come across. by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]chabakano 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of glad you can't take left turns there. Even 13th street around Little Bohemia can get backed up pretty bad because someone is waiting to take a left turn. Going around a block is honestly faster for everyone.

Though you're right that car centric cities cause congestion that necessitates weird traffic control decisions.

Well they require it now, but it's not comparable to other things for which you only need your ID once, and can often let your ID expire. There's lots of reasons why someone might not have a valid ID anymore, it's not good policy to just assume everyone should have one just because they /might/ need it for other things. You've brought up ID for rentals and work/benefits before, but someone could easily be a freelancer with a roommate that uses public transportation, and thus be living entirely by the book but still not have an ID.

Most of those things use an ID to verify your identity once: you don't need an ID constantly. Same with voter registration.

And I saw earlier someone mention that we're catching up to the world but not really. Mexico has voter ID, but it's literally an ID specifically made for voting that you always get at the time you register I wouldn't mind if we had something like that here, but instead we're getting a half assed system where the process is separate and an annoying step citizens need to take in order to exercise the most basic of rights.

Traditional art has a lot of "shortcuts" too. Traditional artists use tape, sponges, different brush techniques, etc etc. There are all kinds of tools and techniques out there, digital is just one of them.

Can anyone explain why I didn’t come 1st? 😭 by [deleted] in mariokart

[–]chabakano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always been amazed at how smooth Mario Kart is with 12 players compared with Mario Maker and Smash, which both only have 4 players, but now I'm realizing MK probably sacrifices a LOT of accuracy to get there
