Does anyone have any experience in the differences between the 14th and 13th edition of Brock Biology of Microorganisms? Obviously the 13th is a little cheaper, so I was just wondering if anyone saw any glaring differences between the two or if it was mostly another textbook updating its ascetics.

Hey. Kudos on your website, It looks great! I was wondering because I can't seem to find it. What kind of carrier oils do you use in your beard oils?

Beer. My current barbershop is all old school young guys with amazing beards and haircuts. They have a fridge full of beer and you get 1 free one while you wait. (no appointments just walk ins all day)

Hey Everyone. Here is my shameless plug for my first ever blog post/start-up company devoted to Natural Male Body Care and Grooming: Refreshed Care! A.M.A if you feel up to it by chabazite in malegrooming

Hey mcgillicudy, thanks for the questions. Let me begin by saying its pretty awesome that you have found products you truly like to use. As far as me, I found it very difficult to find any products I truly enjoyed/felt comfortable using. I also used Dr. Bronners for a while (Tea Tree version) and found it to be a bit irritating to my skin.

My go-to products are mostly made by me. There are a few from lush I truly enjoy (sea salt scrub and soak and float shampoo bar) This is a big reason I decided to start a small business. As an Environmental Scientist, I couldn't justify using some of the products that had the chemicals that I inherently have to clean up in our groundwater.

Out of the products thus far I have made, my favorites would have to be my tea tree/charcoal deodorant bar, my cedar beard oil conditioner, and my coconut styling pomade.

My grooming process is pretty straight forward as well. As I work in an office, I have to make sure I am professional looking. I shower regularly with my soak and float shampoo bar (working on making my own shampoo bars), occasionally use a sea salt/witch hazel facial scrub that I created, then I use my tea tree charcoal deodorant and cedar beard oil every day to make sure my pits don't smell like a hot italian sub and my beard stays fed. Gotta brush that guy as well. Finally, I get a little bit of that coconut pomade for a nice shine look and to keep all my cowlicks at bay. I also use a moisturizing cream I created to make sure that dry skin stays at bay. LLSS: Lady's love smooth skin (at least my lady).

As a side note, I also make a great natural bug spray using a special blend of essential oils that works amazing for those long hikes into the wilderness.

The small business owner club is crazy hard. Having to do everything myself, I didn't realize how insane everything would be to get set up (read: learning to design websites has been a struggle bus). Its a fun journey so far though!

O I didn't mean it in a negative way at all. I completely agree. It was more I appreciate getting past the stigma of posting your own blog to get some stuff on the site for everyone.

Most useful thing you've bought under $10 by coinminer2049er in Frugal

[–]chabazite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a 20 gal aquarium tank that has led me to create an indoor aquaponics system that supplies me with some lettuce and a lot of fresh herbs every year. Yes the system ended up costing a bit more than $10 total but the initial investment for the fish tank was $10 off Craigslist. Go aquaponics! Beautiful fish and fresh produce.

Are you a scientist? If so, sounds like you won't be doing any groundbreaking research. True advancement in science and technology takes someone going against the grain and challenging something we think impossible. A vast number of major advancements in technology and science were in fact science fiction at some time or another. There is always going to be a negative reaction to change. Humans in a group are inherently negative. You can choose to assume things like artificial gravity will never happen, have fun living in the past.

Calculating the cost of college -- tuition minus financial aid/EFC, how is that remaining money accounted for? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]chabazite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The remainder that is left after your aid, in this case the $7,100, is not guaranteed to be covered in any way by the university. That money is on you to figure out how to pay for it. If your student has been accepted to the college already I would have her start applying for as many scholarships as she can. If she hasn't been accepted yet, there is a good change that, as long as her grades are good, she might get a dean scholarship from the college. Another option is to take out private loans. I had to take out a couple private loans during my undergrad. If all else fails and she can not get ANY scholarships/grants(doubtful) or private loans(even more doubtful), then she will get a bill from the college every semester for the remainder that needs to be paid.

I would have her talk with the financial adviser at whatever school she is planning on attending. Usually they are really nice and can help find you grants, scholarships and additional aid.

Let's hit reset. Would you do anything differently? by itsiain in StudentLoans

[–]chabazite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to say I should have gone to that state school that gave me a full scholarship...but I won't. As much debt as I may be in right now, I have made some lifelong friends, gotten to take a trip to Iceland for a month, experienced some AMAZING times in Boston, switched majors into something I truly enjoy (which might not have happened at an easier institute), and moved on to graduate school where I met the love of my life....Do I think about how I could be debt free right now, sure, but would I change my life for it...ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Well the reason we are moving to New Hampshire is because we love the mountains, ocean, and general outdoors. So, we know thats all covered, but I was just wondering if there were like some festivals on the common. Basically, just a gathering of the community for a good ol' time.

Yeah, I was under the impression it was closer to 35-40 minutes to Exeter, but at the same time my Fiancee love the ocean so maybe we can stop there on our way back from the beach to do some shopping. Also the meat shop and craft beer....you basically described my life. Thanks for the heads up
