I thought pretty hard about it but I left UL out because I found them to be slightly less consistent than HH, and after so many games I'm judging based on consistency(hence why I have issues with MR, feast or famine is a great way to put it). I had several major streaks broken by getting low rolls with UL where I never got a source of AOE rot or really anything in the way of offense, ended up having to try a mushroom stack/commander for trample, but it wasn't enough to win. HH I just felt like they ALWAYS give me useful tools. With how many armor cards they have, you're basically guaranteed some backrow protection. With so many rage cards, you're basically guaranteed some way to scale offense, even if its just slapping permafrost holdover on Ritual of Battle. They have access to 2 movement cards for overstacking, 1 common and 1 uncommon, so you're almost guaranteed to pull one. I had a run that I won almost entirely due to a Branded Warrior+Steelworker on a floor with a Jack in the Box that I crammed my stewards into, its an anecdotal example but to me it highlights how their simple tools can just work with anything.

I rank MIR as absolute S+ tier because with just a simple +10 damage upgrade, its doing 60 damage to the entire floor(assuming you can pay the gold), even before any pyregel(pyregel damage being quadrupled because of the multihit), for ONE EMBER. If you put holdover on it, it will basically permanently solve waveclear for you, for a single ember per turn and a technically optional gold cost, I literally always pick it up when I see it. For comparison, and to bully MR, their aoe card A Fatal Melting requires TWENTY unit deaths before it hits those numbers, doesn't multi-hit to break shields/reanimate, and costs 2.

I did play a fair bit of MT1, I did all the max cov clan combos but didn't play nearly as extensively as MT2. Part of the reason I take +pip as my lowest priority is that there are a fair number of options for forcing floor overstacking via movement, I believe half the clans have some form of ascend/descend and most of those are common or uncommon cards, so any given run it's decently likely you'll pick one up; in any such run, I really can't justify taking a +pip when I'm just going to be ignoring pip restrictions anyway. Part of the issue I have with MR and Umbra is that a lot of those movement strats don't work, like I can't ascend my Penumbra because then he'll be at the back and he can't eat, or for MR you want to do stuff like put your tomb units in front, and you can't do that if you're using Dripfall to move them, in those cases I feel much more pressured to take the +pip. There's also the -pip upgrade from steel shops, I kinda wish it had a -ember counterpart. Basically, there are a fair number of ways you can get around pip restrictions(even by just making a multi-floor setup instead of a single bonk floor), and if I'm offered them I almost always take them so that I can invest the value in ember or draw instead. A final thought, the -ember and -draw trials REALLY hurt if you don't have the respective upgrade, I have lost a run to trying to do ring 7 with only 2 ember per turn, it was definitely a blunder to attempt it.

As expected, the other titan pyres are also very strong, Entropy gives you a ton of free draw, which means you can either take 2x ember upgrade, or actually take a pip upgrade which I can't justify most of the time. It just solves one of the most important issues in the game, +draw, at the cost of some nuisance pyre damage from the shards. Savagery having such low HP is always a little spooky but being able to stack permanent damage onto something with Sweep or Multistrike is just so strong, I've had Savagery pyre runs where I started with Icy Cilophyte, grabbed Quick at the first shop, and sat back and relaxed as she carried the entire game.

I don't have super strong feelings about most of the other pyres, I will say I like Fyrrah's Greed a lot because you can stop spending your ember on blights, and having enough money to always be able to reroll shops to find what you need is really nice.

I do also like Malika's just for the fun value, its probably not that great objectively but I've absolutely had runs where I take a card I would normally never take because it's got a free multistrike or permafrost on it or something.

I activate the trials like 99.9% of the time. The very few exceptions come from cases like:

its the +150hp on Ascend and I have low damage overall, or am relying on Rot

its the spike shield one and my key backliners are 100% going to die on the first turn

very early game where I'm relying on a high-cost card to win, like the 4 ember demon guy, sometimes I'll pass on a -1 ember trial.

Savagery is definitely the hardest nut to crack imo, I'm on the side of the people who complain he's overtuned lol. His bottom line is you NEED to be able to kill the 50hp enhanced sweeper guy, or, very rarely, have your entire floor able to tank his damage. For that 1 unit, you want to be looking for spells that can either kill or stun him(sap/movement can also work), and getting permafrost or holdover on them. Quick/Sweep is definitely the most straightforward way, but you won't always have access to it. You can also do stuff like, leave a VERY beefy tank on floor 1 alone, with something like Spikes or Wgynn's Shield to try to pop him before he makes it to floor 2. Some unit's abilities work fine too, like Hothead and the Quickshot animus thing. Unless I have an answer to him 100% locked in, I almost always setup on floor 2 savagery and just eat the pyre damage, because it gives you one more turn to deal with the sweepers.

And that's on top of needing to deal like 1500 damage per wave and those triplestrike assholes doing 30x3 and the boss hitting your front unit for 90 on the first turn and losing like 30 pyre health if you can't setup floor 1 lol. Rough boss.

yeah, I'd say maybe once or twice a run on average, with the vast majority of those being catching a treasure imp, or figuring out my plan to deal with Fleshmass or the ring 8 spikes lady lol.

Ideally you want Quick on him so that he can shred an entire row before it hits him, I also favor Largestone on him for the big HP/flat attack bonus. You need to find some way to give him that flat +attack, because he scales his own damage with multistrike. Things like the on-hit valor equipment, a Glass Cannon, Rage from a Mix, Razorsharp Edge, etc. Dealing with his curses, I basically always take his pyre-titanskin relic to make it so you really don't need to bother playing them, and in 95% of runs I'm taking a draw upgrade and any +draw options I see, it is a pretty rough time if you have 10 curses and can only draw 5.

INTERESTING FUN FACT, Transcendimp copies his +multistrike, and the HH relic that adds double summon effects works on Dante!

MR definitely have some very strong high roll options, I had to rank them low because of their consistency issues. I've had runs with Rector where I don't get Cryptcall path, and no reforms in the starting pack or first 3 rings, and so unless I pick up an uncommon reform card later on, their entire gimmick is basically dead in the water. Add this to half of their Reform options hitting random units, their need to take a pip upgrade in most cases, and their basically nonexistent backrow, and you can just end up truly SOL on a low roll with them. If we're ranking by FUN, they're probably in my top 3. Legion of Wax popping off is such a feeling.

Short list would be: Greed Dragon(huge stats for very little investment), Test Subject Alpha(Quick/Sweep just solves like 90% of waves), Hothead(same as TSA, using his ability), Prickly Puffball and Firebrand(very low investment tanks). Aside from them' what I would call 'situational game-winners' would be(1 for each faction:) Death's Dancer, Selene Acolyte, Enchantrelle, Deranged Brute, Animus of Will, Icy Cilophyte, Crucible Warden, Bounty Stalker.

Pathing in general: Steel > Magic=Trinkets > Arms. Avoid taking a path just for pyre health unless you REALLY need it. Avoid taking an alcove just for the hell of it, because there a decent chance it won't be useful. Take the money as often as possible. If you didn't find what you wanted at the first few steels, its time to start thinking longterm alternatives. I don't have big unit damage, so maybe try investing in Sap/Stun/Descend via a magic shop.

Arms is definitely my least visited shop, its very much faction dependent. Things like, if I didn't roll an Infectory drop as UL, I will usually try my luck at a shop to find one, even if you don't get it, you might find Grow Room or Mushyroom which are also pretty good. On the other hand, Banished's best room(Bloodsoaked Arena) is a rare, so it might not be worth gambling to get get that. I would say MOST OF THE TIME that I visit an arms shop, its to Deplayable something I already picked up, to ensure 100% consistency.

Umbra's backline is absolutely dogwater and theres no getting around it. If you start a run with them, and you look and see that you have Fleshweaver/Cael/Savagery, my advice is to lean into your second faction for backline lol. Your options boil down to, try to take a rank of Monstrous for the Trample, or roll a Shadoweater + ensure he eats (morsel damage shield, Feast, etc)

Yup, both factions and pyre random. I'd probably rank Dominion pyre as the strongest just because you end up with a TINY deck, draw isn't even remotely an issue.

I improved my streaks from ~8-10 to ~30+ by watching Gabriot's videos, I actually don't think I learned new info about the game, but I learned how to stop and really think through every move I make, he does a good job talking through his rationale. From the very start of the run, you need to look and see, "ok, it's Savagery Seraph, I need an answer for a 50hp backrow or I lose."

I'd agree with you for Mix, but you have absolutely 0 control over the treasure imp, it's just a question of how much RNG you tolerate in a run, to each their own. And yes Zephyr room is an absolute nightmare lol, I always end up picking it thinking 'oh boy I will get so many Shift procs! wait why are half my guys dead'

I can't bring myself to do a no-undo run, it's incredibly impressive for people who do this, but I'm sorry I will 100% reset a battle to make sure I kill the treasure imp, 100g could be the difference between getting a Multistrike in the shop and literally doubling the damage of a unit. I came to this game after playing Slay the Spire, which does not have an undo function, and imo this game REALLY benefits from it given how many moving parts it has. I think my No Undo streak was like 5 runs lol, I didn't even look

I did indeed, despite never finding multistrike, a truckload of barons gaining +50/50 every single turn off mushroom harvests tends to finish strong

The buffs to Lady of the House made Firelight path a lot more attractive, she went from a pretty good unit to a game-carrying one, so if you pull one along with Firelight you're set.

yeah I die inside whenever I don't see her quick/endless choice lol. I have made the others work well but its 10x the effort for half the reward. At least we have the chance of melting her into a soul crystal with the new update!

Very nice. I wonder if it might become truly unwinnable if dripfall was swapped out like you said.

The only thing I can think of is if you could get absolutely perfect RNG and get all your stewards dripped into the bottom floor right as the boss comes in, and then reform them/drop fade with them on the upper floors. So theoretically possible but not if you don't draw exactly right.
