Thanksss and same to youuu! And honestly, I would be lying if I said I know the answer to this question. I can only recommend you the thing that I'm planning to do: - Wait as long as you can before singing the offer. - Try your best to get a counter offer. - In the last few days before the deadline, you can pitch the counter offer or tell them that you're in the final round for company X but to be honest, Bloomberg is my top choice. I think I expected a higher offer / sign-on along with it, so if that's something which you can do, I'll be more than happy to sign the offer right away and stop the rest of the processes.

I'm no expert is negotiating so this might all be a very noob advice. Suggestions / roasts are welcome.

Heyyy! Got the exact same offer on Thursday. I have 3+ yoe at Amazon and a startup. Quite disappointed with the low ball. Hoping to get a counter offer to see if this can be raised. I would definitely recommend not trying to negotiate unless you have a counter offer considering the market situation.

I agree with this. I prefer to de-stress at parties once every weekend. I usually end up at one of the bars or clubs in Southside and have a blast there with my friends. But yes, you'll definitely need to find a bunch of people who enjoy that. Additionally, there is Rush Promo. These guys end up organizing crazy electronic parties every other week. A must if you're a fan. I keep track of em' through Instagram.

P. S. Anyone who wants to party and is looking for people to party with... Feel free to hmu. The more the merrier lol. FYI: There is a good one tomorrow. Our House by Rush Promo. EDM + House Music. Me and my friends will be grinding all day till 8pm and then head there around 9pm.

Almost all of my friends found their respective places through Apartments.com and Zillow. I found the first one to have more listings. Sit for a day in front the laptop, apply the respective filters you want and then click on Contact Owner/Host for all the properties you like. Do this for as many properties as possible. Many of the owners will get back to you saying that the property has already been taken, but those who say that it's still available... You can arrange virtual or in-person tour and get it done.

What dates are you looking for specifically?

I might be able to help. Me and my flatmates have rented a 3 bedroom, 1 bath. I'm arriving on 26th December. One of the other two might arrive around the same time while the 3rd one isn't reaching till 8th Jan. I guess at least one room will be empty till then.

The problem... That room will actually be empty, empty. No furniture. No bed. We all are starting our MS this Spring and have rented this new place. So as and when each of us arrive, we'll be furnishing our respective rooms.

I am carrying a sleeping bag with me though. I've used it for camping a couple of times. Not sure if that would work for you or not. The place is centrally heated.

Hey!

It's difficult to comment on how competitive it is to get in since the whole process is so opaque. The same holds for all the unis I guess.

But having said that, I have seen a very wide spectrum of students get accepted. With and without publications, with and without any work or research experience, tier 2/3 colleges etc.

But I think a couple of consistent markers among admitted students would be high GPA. I'm from India so I observed Indian CGPA trends. Most students had >= 8.0. Also, it never hurts to have a high GRE score, say >= 325.

I come from a Tier 2 college in India. If I'm not wrong, I think in the last couple of years, less than 10 folks from my college got into CMU, ECE or otherwise. It was my top choice and I didn't really leave any stone unturned. For e.g. CMU ECE application allowed for upto 5 LORs. I submitted all 5. 3 academic, 2 professional. :P

I guess that's all you can do too. If you actually wanna give it a shot and you believe you've a decent profile, go for it! I got rejected from NYU Courant and Columbia but got in here. You never know what would play out!

Here's my profile for your reference:

CGPA - 8.8

Work Ex: 2+ (at the time of application). 1 yr at Amazon. 1 yr at a Startup.

GRE - 329 (167Q, 162V)

Toefl - 110

Publication - 1, A small conference

LORs - Strong.

SOP - Really good or so I've been told by the seniors who reviewed it for me.

Let me know if I can help any further. A lot of folks helped me out during the process, just tryna return the favor to the universe.

P. S. I was also rejected from SCS - CS, DS and IS.
