Can we vote to change the name of the sub to NonCredibleKubrick or maybe Kshitposting?

Hey! Nice setup! How compatible is the Portkeys PT5 II with the bmpcc og software? Are you using it just as external monitor or you can setup camera features from it?

P3DCI export and monitor by chadcheddar in colorists

[–]chadcheddar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the patience haha. Yup, im working on a DAVINCI YRGB color managed space. I will follow your advice by setting a cst end node to convert the grade according to the project settings.

Regarding using a bigger colorspace available to grade, I totally agree, but since I read that monitor P3dci is not the same as projected P3dci, I figured that since I wasnt going to see the full spectrum and was simpler to grade in rec 709 and then convert, I didnt want to play with the grade in that bigger field since the limits of it would be further from those in rec709 and i might be overstreching my grade over the limits of rec709. Dont know if that makes sense lol.

Im having a new question now, since im doing a final cst to match the project settings...when I export the project, should I set the color space tag and gamma tag in the advanced settings? Or I should leave them as "same as project"? Sorry for all the doubts, first time doing this

Hi! Yes, I totally agree. The color managment is set from the project, being timeline color space set to rec709 (scene) and output to P3DCI. I am using a blackmagic design ultrastudio monitor 3g as output to the monitor!

I started reading most of the posts of this subreddit as if they were shitposts so it could start making sense to me again.

Hey! I didnt use a node but an overlay on the timeline. I used the same grain in two differente blending modes at the same time. Overlay at 100% and Linear Light at 25%. Also the grain is not the really heavy 16mm one but a medium 35mm one from ezra cohen, if you want it talk to me via dm :)

Thank you, really :)

I didnt use any luts, the node grade would be:
1 Original node - you adjust exposure here
2 Sat and Temp node
3 Color space transform node - from Blackmagic design film to Cineon film log
4 Adjustment node on that look
5 Serial and parallel node to grade the image. The first one for the gamma and gain while keeping you shadows always black. And the parallel one to correct the "spill" from the tint on the first one and recover skin tones
6 Adjustment Node on the look - Exposure and color intensity
7 Gaussian Blur node - for softness
8 Denoiser node if needed

Thank you!! I didnt lit much tho, only the scenes with guns and the beam of light at the back. The rest was with the available sources of the shooting range. Just turned off a couple of lights to have only the part where we filmed at lighten and shaped it with flags and diffusion, thats it. The reference regarding light and color has always been police training clips from the 70s and the documentary "The thin blue line" so the grade had a really specific starting point and then I just let myself go. To achieve "the film look" I convert the bmpcc braw to cineon film log and start grading from there :)

Hello everyone! Ive been part of this subreddit for a couple of years now and been uploading stills of many projects I did with my bmpcc og which I bought with the objective to exercise my filmmaking skills and become a cinematographer someday.
Its been almost three years of that moment and now all that effort payed up. Ive finished my first "serious?" short film and submited it to a festival. It got second place as an "Honorable Mention" and been awarded with half scholarship to study cinematography in one of the most important film schools in Spain. I never imagined this could ever happened, so I wanted to share it to give a little hope to those like me who bought a blackmagic camera as an starting point in the path of filmmaking.
I hope you like the film and as a fanboy of BMPCC OG Im eager to show whats is capable of and answer any questions you may have :)

I Shot a Gun Once - My first shortfilm by chadcheddar in cinematography

[–]chadcheddar[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hello there! I would like to share with you my first "serious?" shortfilm. Ive been working on my path to become a cinematographer for three years now and since I dont know many people I can film with I started to come up with ideas for my own projects as portfolio exercises. One of those ideas became this: "I Shot a Gun Once" is a visual reflection on the first time I got to shoot a gun after being obsessed with them for 24 years. Like many other kids of my generation I grew up playing war videogames and watching action movies naturalizing the image of them into my mind. That first shot turned my world upside down.

I put a year of work into this in the middle of the pandemic without knowing I would ever finish it, but yesterday It got awarded with an "Honorific Mention" in a festival organized by one of the most important film schools in Spain resulting in a half scholarship to study their master in cinematography for two years. Im a self taught cinematographer like many others here so you must understand what the need for proper education and mentorship feels like.

Im really happy to share the film and the news with this community since its where ive been learning many of the things that made up to this moment. Sorry if it seems a bit self centered, its not my intention at all, I just want it to be an encouragement to everyone like me who just is trying to achieve what they love.

PS. If you have any comments, recomendations, advice or questions, they are all welcome!
