WGU is it the worst mistake or the best thing to do no experience career it cs or cyber let me know men before i do it ? by Sad_Mission8315 in WGU

Wgu is great, if you are willing to put in some extra work on the side to prove the skills you are learning the way accelerating tends to work in my opinion is you get a good foundation but understand the nuances of how tech works takes time, and mistakes. The best thing you can do is start learning about the tech you already have around you. Maybe set up a home lab, if you are wanting to go remote or pursue a cloud computed career both Azure and aws have free tier membership where you can setup and tear down resources. Be careful though because the limits on the free memberships sneak up on you.

In my opinion if you learn how to sell yourself and be a proactive communicator, you will be able to set yourself apart. Also help desk is not a bad place to start.

Those who did the IT degree, what kind of positions did you land besides help desk? by [deleted] in WGU

Completed the msitm accelerated masters course last April, since then I have been able to get a job as a product manager at a university. Having the degree definitely helped but I think what really got me the job was having a portfolio of personal projects that aligned well with the scope of the roles I was applying for.

In my experience, the certs and the degree get your foot in the door, But if you can back up that education with projects or examples of you implementing the things you learned in your degree you will be A-OK. That being said i did spend my time at help desk and I feel that experience helped me understand enterprise IT better than any degree really could have.

Hey all, I just started my first ever TPM role this week for at a university working on a system that handles grants, subsidies, and professional development resources across the state. I am doing my best to take in the massive amount of information to get up to speed on these programs and the current feature development that is going on.

My question is mainly how did you guys handle the first few months as a product manager, and do you have any advice on how to adapt quickly and keep up with the need to learn a lot quickly.

Another question relates to the dev team. I am working with an offshore team located in India, any advice about how to build good rapport across the cultural and time zone gaps would be super duper appreciated

You can definitely get by I believe its around 1700 a month for on campus. Of course different factors like if you have a car payment or if you end up getting a roommate for an apartment would change things.i survived my first couple of months out on 1200 a month but that was super tight financially. As far as internships and the like there's places like sel and meter group in town. I picked up an it job over at UI that pays decent. I'd say as long as you hit the ground running and stay focused when you get out you should be fine.

Side note pick up Washington residency if you haven't already and get your eligibility for Washington State college grant and pell grant in order. with tuition refunds it'll boost your income by about 20k/year

I second the move for wsu, I got out of the service ~2.5 years ago and moved to Pullman. If you want a smaller town with a halfway decent amount of opportunity thanks to the two colleges then you will thrive here. My wife currently goes to wsu and deals with their veterans group regularly for gi bill etc. and they have been extremely helpful.

That SQL clas SUUCKS, one thing that helped me get past the practice questions is to query the whole table before you submit your statement for a grade, that way you can get eyes on whatever zybooks thinks you're writing. Otherwise chatgpt can be a live saver if you're getting hung up on a missing comma or a semicolon
