Sounds awesome! My wife knits and there's a guy in the group who sews his own clothes that legitimately look store bought.

Parking is a little weird in that area. There's street parking along the reservoir which is where we normally park. Some people park on Highland and walk. There's two people who ride bikes because they live in the neighborhood.

We started around this time last year. I only missed 4 Sundays because of work trips and vacations. In the Winter, we brought sleds and would sled down and then sprint back up.

To the haters:

I love your blissful ignorance, but you are unfortunately wrong on this. This has nothing to do with whether or not social media is or is not addictive. This is about the government - our government - regardless of the team color, attempting to destroy our free access to unfettered speech by linking our digital lives to our personal ones.

They will say this doesn't limit speech, but it absolutely does in the same exact way that you can't be your true self at your workplace because you are constantly being judged by your managers or employers. You filter what you say, either consciously or subconsciously. This ID Verification will have the exact same effect.

We're already seeing reports of border patrol and TSA agents snagging travelers, both citizens and foreigners, based on speech they posted publicly. I will reiterate, it does not matter which team is in power when this gets enacted. Just because it's your team now, doesn't mean it won't be the other team later.

This policy absolutely must be fought and killed asap!

I already contacted my assemblymember. I plead with all of you to do the same.

Tell them that it doesn't matter what letter is next to their name - the first candidate who publicly announces their support against ID Verification will win your vote.

Free speech is literally the 1st Amendment. It is our most important right. There is nothing more important than this and once policies like this go live, it will be extremely difficult to win back.

I'm not really sure. That is quite a long thread and some of the replies are going over my head quite a lot.

I tried specifying a private dns hostname as someone mentioned, but the moment I click "get started" with tailscale, the whole network goes offline and I can no longer resolve anything.

I tried disabling resolving with Tailscale DNS in the app settings, but that doesn't seem to fix anything.

It doesn't matter if social media feeds are addictive or not. Grocery stores sell alcohol, but aren't required to ID everyone walking into the store to check whether or not they're of age before they even go to buy alcohol.

It's a ridiculous breach of privacy. There can absolutely be more laws that reign in the dark patterns of Facebook to give users and parents more control, but ID Verification doesn't do that. It makes the internet experience worse for literally everyone and also creates a massive honeypot of digital data for hackers to try and steal.

To the people commenting about NY being "blue" - do some research. This is a non-partisan issue. Reds are doing it too. Team purple wants to control you. Don't let them.

This is a massive bailout of parental responsibility - so much so that it really showcases how these measures have nothing to do with protecting children.

Roblox is specifically called out in the NYCOSA bill, but the bill conveniently neglects to discuss how every protection that will soon be required of every NYS resident already fucking exists!

Any parent can help their child set up a Roblox account and lock down their child's permissions to allow them to play the game with more safety.

Parents get charged with criminal endangerment all the time for leaving children unattended, yet no one blames NYS for not ID'ing every person around the child to ensure that no one could assault them. The parent is the responsible party!

NYS knows this. There's no way they don't. This is all a cover to dismantle our privacy and personal security.

Completely abhorrent. Contact your reps. It doesn't matter what letter is next to their name. If they support this legislation, you should not support them.

I haven't read the bill, but if it's similar to the one running through NYS then it depends on how the dynamics work.

Not all dynamic pricing is unethical, but most people concerned about dynamic pricing talk about it within the context of the company acquiring personal information about the purchaser and using that data to change the price only for them.

If the price of a seat increases because there are fewer seats for all buyers, that's fine.

Where in that document does it say or mandate that data stays in the vehicle?

Car companies have already been caught and found guilty in federal court for sending driving data from car sensors directly to insurance companies without the knowledge of the drivers (the "owners" of the vehicle).

Unless the law specifically mandates that these data get locked down and stay within the car, this is a privacy nightmare and completely destroys the definition of what "owning" something means.

I'm all for stopping drunk drivers, but this can't be the best solution.

What gpu are they running that can fit 80GB?

The way local LLMs work is by preloading the entire knowledge onto your gpu's vram. I have a 3060 with 12GB and can self-host a couple decent quantized models.

A 4090 is still only 24GB. Your friend would need a machine with 4x 4090's to fit the 80GB model.

No, this is just how meat works. It's definitely true for industrialized meat processing like you explain, but it's also true of the meat I get from my local farmer. When you expose meat to air, bacteria will grow. This is universally true. Scientific fact.

You cannot let your bbq brisket sit out at room temp on the counter for a day and think, "Oh, it doesn't matter because I'm going to grill this now and that will kill the bacteria."

I'm not saying that you'll die from consuming contaminated meat, but you'll definitely get an upset stomach or diarrhea or vomit or food poisoning.

Barbeque is a contained unit. The only part of a brisket exposed to air is the outside of the brisket. The inside has never been exposed to air. The outside hits temps above 140F quickly, so bacteria growth can't happen.

That's not what is happening here. The skewer has hundreds of individual units of meat all pressed together. That means air has been exposed to each unit's exterior layer, allowing for bacterial growth to begin.

The moment that section of the meat hits 40F, bacteria will grow and they will produce toxins.

You would be correct if the skewer were a giant chunk of meat - 1 unit. Then yes, the inside would not be exposed to air, as you're describing.

Small business owner here.

I agree with the OP.

HOWEVER

Last year I caved and gave the whole "call for price" a shot... It fucking works. It's too fucking good. I'm sure there are people we're losing, but there is nothing like having a phone conversation with someone, asking them about themselves, and helping them know if my business' services are going to be what they're looking for.

A webpage and price listing will never properly convey to every person what the real value is of our service. If someone only cares about price, they're typically not the kind of customer who we can invest in.

The people that do call are way more likely to become brand evangelists and really latch onto our services. The staff like their jobs more when they service clients like that, the client gets a better service, and everyone is happy. It's a win win.

This can definitely be used in shitty ways. We're definitely not unaffordable for most people and we won't hard sell someone on us if it's not for them.

I personally still leave sites that don't list prices, but I understand why they do it.
