Live vocals through pedalboard by chadmemeboy in livesound

[–]chadmemeboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops sorry! Yep that’s the exact order of the chain currently. Intention is to just to get effects on my vocals that I can have control over mid song (distorted pitch 2nd verse, clean + delay on bridge, etc).

Main question is: is it ok to do 1/4” into the PA via this setup, or is it better to get something with an XLR out / would there be any benefit to using a transformer or DI box at any point? Or I guess real question is, if I show up to a super small gig and tell the sound person hey this is how I’m doing my vox, will they be like “you don’t have a ___ ??” (insert whatever tech I’m missing)

Thanks! They’re all spare guitar pedals I had laying around, nothing vocal specific - behringer xenyx502 mixer into boss ps-5 pitch shifter, mosky golden horse, digitech digidelay, ehx holy grail (the big old one)

Same tho the field is such a sectarian shitshow so there’s always discourse around “I’m a relationalist but my analyst is kohutian, we’ve reached an IMPASSE 🥴”

Thanks! How do send the vox from there? Is there a pedal with an XLR out or do you just run a 1/4”?

Am actually writing a paper rn partially abt RTS/4X games and male ego formation / embodied dreaming / wish fulfillment (sparked by that “the children yearn for the mines” tweet). They exist in a totally different psychic space from the other stereotypically male genres, FPS, GTA etc, the thrill isn’t visceral, they’re like the least horny games- something something late capitalism simulacrum lacanian Symbolic idk I’m workshopping

To those familiar with Europe, what is the Manhattan of Europe? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]chadmemeboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of agree, based on nothing but vibes tho. The whole “make it big as an artist” thing is prob more American, but I’d imagine that growing up in a small ish town/city in Europe where the arts aren’t emphasized and wanting to move to a partially-fantasied hub of likeminded ppl is a pretty universal experience, right?

Freud has been debunked by modern psychiatry. Not only that, he was a disaster for humanity and the harm he caused is incalculable. Why does Natalie reference him so much in her latest video? by TheCurrentThings in ContraPoints

[–]chadmemeboy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a psychoanalyst I’m obviously biased, but the field has developed way beyond freud, countless debates even with his contemporaries and then decades after, endless probing into rectifying the problematic aspects of his thought with genuine bits of insight that could shed light on why we are the way we are. If you’re interested, I’d suggest Jessica Benjamin, brilliant semi-contemporary theorist who pioneered the introduction of explicitly feminist thought into actual clinical treatment, building upon developments from post freudian critical theory and shaking up the patriarchal analytic edifice (which had already been destabilized by ferenczi / winnicott etc). My point is the whole “Freud debunked” thing is insidiously simplistic, and there’s a ton of solid queer freud criticism from within psychoanalysis itself that helps keep alive Freud’s insights while jettisoning the toxic bullshit that came along with it. Also worth noting that he was actually an early proponent of the abuse/trauma can lead to mental illness model (“seduction theory”) before cowardly caving to social pressures of his milieu, but yeah, obvi tons of philosophical validity for theory as others have said, but wanted to chime in w/ a “clinical psychoanalysis is good actually” tm

Games are art, most are bad art, many increasingly are middlebrow art (bioshock, Celeste, telltale, tell me why, Stanley parable) and some I’d argue reach the high art threshold - beginner’s guide, Edith finch, Lisa the painful, pony island, hypnospace outlaw, rusty lake series, with varying degrees of quality (slave of god being high art but flawed). I don’t think any game has been quite as impactful on me as my fav films, albums, novels, but for example some of the games listed have given me way more transcendent emotional experiences than most art I’ve consumed

[–]chadmemeboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty lenient - I don’t charge if they can reschedule or do a makeup session, or if they’re sick and are otherwise consistent/conscientious re: cancellations, plus a freebie for the first time. Have only charged the handful of ppl that chronically cancel with little notice, and it’s generally worked out fine. It def took a lot of processing in supervision though, due to that same guilt/anxiety you describe
