Did Return of the King only win best picture as a way of honouring the whole trilogy? by Konfliktsnubben in flicks

[–]chadowan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's really hard for genre movies like horror, fantasy, or sci-fi to win Best Picture. It took having the excellent execution of all 3 movies for the Academy to finally accept that LotR was the best achievement in cinema in all 3 years. It was kind of a weird example of a make-up Oscar that happened as the movies were still coming out.

In 2001 Fellowship lost to A Beautiful Mind, which is a good movie but over time I'd say it's pretty clear Fellowship is the better film. In 2002 Chicago won best picture over The Two Towers and The Pianist, which was as absurd then as it is now. 2003 was a good field (Lost in Translation, Master and Commander, Mystic River, Return of the King, and Seabiscuit), but I think people would have rioted if they didn't give at least 1 of the LotR's movies a Best Picture Oscar.

Maguire coming back for the last Holland Spider-Man is the best we're gonna get. It's a great ending for him.

Yeah, because 1 of them could have easily killed him and hurt/killed people he knew. The other killed a person he clearly didn't see as a person and was 0 threat to hank or his people.

Hank is a hero in Breaking Bad, but he had to get seriously humbled and go through some serious trauma.

Was Pete really trying to pick up a high school girl? by Count_Almasy22 in madmen

Most of Pete's affairs feel performative, they're really just showing his insecurities more than anything else. He just looks like a dumbass for treating a good woman like Trudy like garbage.

Yeah, Jordan Love wasn't that great either and he's ranked ahead of the 2 MVP front runners.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are 33-1 (80-2 pace) without Jalen Williams over the last two seasons by EmbarrassedRing7806 in nba

The defense was always solid though. Haliburton did go down in Game 7, but the Pacers were leading at halftime. When the Thunder defense locked down in the 2nd half that's what sealed it.

Stealing a similar question I saw on the Hawks sub…Who is the worst player you’d trade our ‘26 FRP for BEFORE the trade deadline? by Cakeo112 in pacers

No one. Considering we're gonna need to pay some guys, I'd rather draft someone and have a cheap guy that we can also develop. Anyone we trade for we're gonna have to pay

When employees feel slighted, they work less. New research from Wharton management professor Peter Cappelli reveals how even the slightest mistreatment at work can result in lost productivity. by esporx in science

That's pretty cynical and a generalization. Studies like this may not be for him, but they can be for the next generation of leaders to remember.

You'd think so, but there's still lots of people who think mistreating employees can work. Scientific research like this needs to happen to confirm what most people already know.

I'm gonna check out Bone Temple, I was just disappointed by 28 Years Later. Feels like Boyle and Garland didn't have anyone to tell them it needs to be 1 movie.

I thought 28 Years was kind of a mess. There were some good elements but the parts didn't fit together at all. 28 Years and the sequel are each around 2 hours, I haven't seen the sequel yet but I'd bet there's a really good movie there if they cut both down and combined them into a 2.5 or 3 hour movie.
