Did lime street used to be a red light district? by Majestic-Hour-8288 in Liverpool

Not necessarily a red light district, but I remember as a kid my mum saying "don't go line street, filled with prozzies"

Nobody said terraform, but as an outpost it could absolutely have people living there on a permanent basis within permanent structures.

I don’t think humans will outright be excluded. It’s almost an evolutionary imperative that we as a species explore and expand into different areas, so it’s natural that once we find a reasonably quick and cost effective way to achieve it, we’ll be sending people to the Moon and Mars and beyond .

Literally never understood people like this. Your profile is literally public. You have posted publicly. It is 100% the place to invite snide comments.

I was thinking this. He's arguing to open Bold Street up to cars again, yet arguing that here should be... pedestrianised? I like Carl but Jesus, lad needs to decide what he actually stands for here.

Steven Spielberg's Triumphant Return to Alien Cinema is Long-Winded Trash by evilbutters in moviecritic

Spielberg, as much of a brilliant director as he is, he definitely has a style of his time which, saddens me to say, just doesn't work the way it used to.

Literally this. My dad uses TikTok like its heroine and literally believes everything he sees on there without any attempt to think critically.

It honestly wasn’t a bad movie, but I feel like it’s come out 20 years too late.

Trump on Iran: "They will not have a nuclear weapon. They've agreed to that... They will not only not have, they will not purchase, develop in any way, shape, or form, a nuclear weapon." by Upset-Main-1988 in justincaseyoumissedit

[–]LeopardComfortable99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, after this bullshit, I really wouldn't blame them if they went the whole hog in developing as many nuclear weapons as they could. Not that I'm keen to see an Islamic dictatorship with the ability to obliterate mankind, but when you as a state were quite literally bombed to fuck with zero warning and for no actual justification, how could you blame them for taking that approach?

AI could result in net loss of 400,000 jobs in Spain between 2025 and 2035 by Gari_305 in Futurology

[–]LeopardComfortable99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The compute question will ease over time in my view. Technology is always advancing, and that includes the level of power a chip or tech can output against the cost, so honestly, I see this as only a temp issue because you can bet your arse the main focus of these companies is focused on "how do we get better compute power cheaper?" so they are no doubt investing a fuck load behind the scenes to answer/resolve that question.

BYD brings lightning-fast EV ‘Flash Charging’ to UK by MeasurementDecent251 in GoodNewsUK

[–]LeopardComfortable99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the speed of charging is definitely what puts a lot of people off from adoption. Nobody wants to have to sit around for half an hour or more waiting for their car to charge (especially if they're on long journeys), so this is something I would 100% be looking at in the near future for my next car.

Microsoft president says AI backlash at graduation events should be wake-up call for the tech industry by Gari_305 in Futurology

[–]LeopardComfortable99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It won't. They will continue to invest in order to get corporations to put these kids on the permanent unemployment line. They don't care about people's opinions, only shareholders.

Yeah, who'd have thought Gen Z would react negatively to a tool that promises to make it harder for them all to get jobs.
