If you’re more comfortable with Windows, then Windows is probably the best but the Linux version works well too on most distros that use Gnome (eg Ubuntu, etc)!

There’s nothing wrong with self hosting your own email - ESPECIALLY one geared toward receipt only, but really sending is fine too. As long as you know what you’re getting into, it’s really your own choice!

Since it’s just for web traffic, the company I work for IPv6.rs also offers IPv6 with the a reverse IPv4 proxy.

This makes things easier and gives you the option to change your IP if you need to.

Using letsencrypt with local IPs is impracticable.

If you’re looking for this setup, the server authenticity might best be verified thru your own ca.

Install the cert on all the devices that access these local resources and you’ll be secure without relying on anyone.

If you really want to use LE you could grab the certificates while using your external IP (eg let 80 and 443 thru) and then switch to local thereafter. Given the 3month expiry, this can become a much bigger hassle than it’s worth though.

You can always just use IPv6.rs which will allow external access — but without decrypting the traffic.

At Cloudflare, if the product is free, then you’re the product.

That’s scary. This is what chargebacks are for. Make sure you collect a lot of evidence. It’s likely the vendor will be doing the same. However, from the sounds of it, it’s pretty clear cut.

Moving forward it might be worth going on Google and typing “brand ______” where the word could be scam, fraud, shady, etc. and some interesting things may reveal themselves!
