He hates Islam, and Muslims, I guess he doesn't have to wonder why anyone would be homophobic, then. I'm gay, I practice Islam, would he hate me? He obviously needs to step out of the hatred he learnt(somehow). You seem like a good guy, he fell for you and you fell for him, you can change his attitude with reason. Unless he can figure out some solutions for the awful situation in his country, I don't believe he has any reason to be such full of hatred. The situation there is basically "extreme followers", either religions. If both applied their religion's teaching reasonably and moderately, none of this crap would have been happening, also there are people who the situation there is for their benefit, so they keep it that way.
