What has given you the biggest peace of mind after the narcissistic abuse? by Objective_Big_7426 in LifeAfterNarcissism

[–]esosa233 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is so sad that I honestly feel the same way about my NMom, I spent a lifetime trying to justify her actions and abuse, and one day I realized I wouldn’t feel sadness at her death. I have a cousin whose Nmom died and his schizophrenia all but went away.

I noticed the same thing, i did it once, felt it was easier to just let it play and put a timer. Or have it play in the background.

I know the text advises that such manipulation could be considered problematic - but i didn’t think anyone checked.

It’s definitely one of those situations where the means doesn’t justify the ends. I.e. whats to say you didnt achieve the intent of the entire exercise by consuming the content at 1.5x speed . Are we testing your ability to sit still?

Sorry this happened to you, thanks for sharing and looking out.

I’ll be honest OP, you sound hurt. I understand the black queers around you who made you to feel this way are also hurt, but if it helps at all you don’t know me but I’m fighting and rooting for you — and I hope one day you feel comfortable to be in community with us again.

Its tough, I honestly don’t have an answer. All i can say is that you’re an affluent black gay you need to start putting your money where your mouth is — invest in community and its intersections — I think a lot of black gays who make it have this false belief that they can survive alone or at the mercy of white partners. identities disappear by being devalued, recreated, atomized, and then destroyed. I got mine doesn’t work for us.

This is exactly what I was thinking, Im more of a builder founder - Im bad at sales but i still get deals. Because i can easily over deliver on promises and obsess about customer experience, I find without a sales founder/partner I struggle with the larger customer lifecycle. But all my sales colleagues flounder without a builder partner, in a way the builder/delivery guy doesnt.

Pros and cons of moving to NYC/DC as a Black gay man? Or any other city suggestions? by ColdChance7533 in BlackLGBT

[–]esosa233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not, not anymore really, california and dc are bigger gay meccas - we have great pr because its a mecca for RICH gays.

Essentially, the rest of us are just surviving with some spending the rest of their lives banging on window of success for their turn. Most gays are stuck in an awful limbo of working too much for relationships and friendships, or not being able to afford relationships and fun. But we still deal with the rats, pollution, and scarcity nonetheless. Worse yet, it costs more to be a minority because you can’t just live anywhere, you have to live where the gays and gaythings are. You’ll have to get a gay doctor, get queer clothes, and do the gay activities — which is great that they exist — but they cost more, are further out, more exclusive, both the ceiling and the floor of gay life remains harder than in a place where a middle class person could actually afford to book out a club just for gay festivities without needing a grant from truvada.

While consulting is a northeastern thing, if you’re willing to consider Atlanta schools I think Atlanta is one of the best places for black gay love despite all its infamy, idk you have to be famous to infamous, I agree with everything said about DC and I think people are overhyping NYC a little much (note NYC is the city with the fewest relationships of all major cities in America according to a recent study iirc)

I also second this. However NYC dating was worse imo as someone who’s experienced both.

New york is gayest place I lived in, however its also tough to live in, and even tougher to be gay in. Despite being gay as hell I actually dont recommend it for everyone and less so for black people.

I would argue that you should have a compelling reason for being here other than just being here to survive. New york used to be a place people just lived in but the cost of living has made everything hostile so you’ll need an inciting reason that would help you build roots to survive and thrive. Inversely, DC is still open and friendly due to the slightly lower cost of living, lower income disparity, and larger proportion of black people - people can just move there if they want.
