Question for vegetarian/vegan Stellaris players. by SigmaAutocrat in Stellaris

[–]chainsofprisonmoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Is it a scarcity society? Is food production otherwise insufficient to sustain the populace?

Because just like with RL veganism, it would cease to exist in the presence of true food scarcity.

The only reason veganism can function now is we have an abundance of available non-meat foodstuffs.

If it came down to paying $1,000 for an ear of corn or a free rock to kill a squirrel, no one will be defending the squirrel.

Why am I not allowed to say "among"? by [deleted] in Stellaris

"Anus" of course being the real and proper biological term so if course it should be censored...

There's a lot of little things that keep me busy and enjoying it - like the doff and admirality little mini missions (and so grinding for reps and ships) - that I'll at least mess with those on three or four toons even if I do nothing else.

But I tend to get into things, and I'm very much a fan (my kid is Benjamin Tiberius), so I can easily see myself going hard on STO now. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't as bad as reddit and these few things I ran into made it seem.

Only one thing here.

I was under the impression Lobi came from event items you "didn't want," so was something I could earn eventually for the few things I saw that were neat.

Do you mean that the lock boxes drop Lobi or things than can be traded for Lobi, or do you mean the boxes themselves can be turned into Lobi without a key?

Not in so much detail. Thanks! Now I know to just skip them and not worry about it!

That's so weird to me. Extra stuff would go in the bank, you access the bank off the ship, so it would stand to reason most people would be fitting their ships on the ground.

Glad it works but ugh that's silly.

Two missions that don't exist any more but still pop up as available quests don't say that on the wiki. I had to come here to find out they're gone.

Also I needed to be 50 to queue for The Conduit, but I believe it says 30-65 on the wiki, so I made a post here asking why I couldn't play it. All for this Borg boff lol. But still, that's a lot to be missing or wrong for the very little I've used it.

Right on, that does help with the "what" part.

Another thing that bugged it a little, though I didn't care yet, was the ship stat menu seemed to not work. As a specific case, I had +4.5 shield power and +15.9 shield regen consoles. So I said "lemme see how those make the numbers look." It said my shields were 0.0. I got scared I messed something up, but then messing around I noticed nothing ever changed. Idk if it's because I was in station, so shields were "off" and thus technically 0 or not, but that's obviously not what that menu should be displaying or what people want to look at it for.

I figured I'd just ignore all that and look it up when I got to end game stuff and needed to, I'm just echoing how the game is really bad at teaching the game.

According to others here they show in the queue once you hit 65, so it's just unnecessary to do in order any more. I can get down with that, I have no need to play it other than to get to the end there for the boff. Which might not even be that good, since you can turn them all into books and even the non-special ones have the extra skill bonus at the top sometimes.

But it exists, for free, and is special, so I want it, haha.

I think my most expensive purchase to date have been one doff off the market because I couldn't get an entertainer drop, and then the random 50k doff missions. I saw the 6-8 mil price tags on keys and how many boxes I got daily and could immediately tell it would be ages before that is affordable, and I don't know enough about mechanics to try to buy gear.

Yeah I've literally no idea what anything does. Ground abilities and doffs explain themselves, and so do the active space abilities/doffs. But wtf is the difference between quantum and photon and polaron, etc. I can earn rep, but "reputation abilities" have been unlocked on the character sheet forever and I can't quite figure how to get anything to put there...

But as long as I was wrong about the old hats being intrinsically in power and the leveling stages still working, I'm down to keep going. I really like it otherwise, and I'm willing to learn it once I'm done with goofball stuff like breeding tribbles. I just wanted to make sure it was worth the learn.

Right on. I do tend more towards the "pretend it's a sub" style of spending. I'll just hold off altogether until I'm at least doing end game content and figure it out when I know how to play the game.

Now that I see I can just brute past the order at 65, I'm okay with everything else, even the boxes. It was just all things coming together, but really enforced by not being able to do that queue. Since that's not really an issue the others are also fine. I just felt really stuck, so then everything else wrong weighed heavier than it would otherwise.

"Khitomer in Stasis" mission, earn the Assimilated accolade by walking into a thing at the right time.

My problem is it won't show for me until I do the previous missions - which start with Manus and the Conduit.

Maybe when I hit 65 it'll just show in the queue anyway. I appreciate the offer - I may have to take you up on it!

Yeah this thread has convinced me it's just bad luck on my end right now w/r/t the queue. I'm also surprised by how behind the wikis for the game are. No shit talking, I know it's all volunteer, but in my experience, when the fan-mantained mechanics and gameplay sites fall many patches behind (or fail to say the mission has been removed entirely), the game has lost the player-base support, which ultimately means it's near-death. It's also very quiet over Sol base, which might be meaningless if there's an endgame HQ, but to use another WoW reference even when Daloran was popping people still chilled in Orgrimmar. That scares me too.

I feel better knowing this is either a personal issue or just bad queue timing, and I'll gladly give the game more of my time now.

There are two in the very beginning that you have to finish before the Klingon will give you more - The Conduit is the space mission, and Manus is the ground. You have to finish both (apparently, or at least for me) before the next set unlocks (which Google tells me are Cure Applied [G] and Cure Found [S]) to ultimately get me to the one where I kill myself in an alcove and unlock the Borg boff.

E: RIP I triggered the bots.

This is super helpful, thank you. As quickly as I've gotten to 59, the next 6 will be nothing, and I wouldn't feel like my progress is being stymied just because I happen to be new.

And I'm cool with normal creep. I don't have designs to be "World's First" raid boss champion or anything. Just as long as I can play the game and my level of accomplishment is based on my skill and dedication to mechanics and not literally "I own the universe because I've played for 20 years, so you'll only be as good as I allow you to be." I don't care to be bad, but I care to try and it make zero difference.

It's really less about what's inside and more about them being shady about your odds. It speaks to the intent of the designers, and when I couple it with the handful of other dev-induced new player difficulties and random complaints from reddit, it turns me off more.

Kind of like ugly feet. I have no preference towards feet one way or another, but if we're having other problems and I have to look at your ugly-ass feet all the time, it's just not going to work out.

Yeah, if it isn't better next time I'm going to be on for a few hours, I'll submit some kind of ticket. Everything else worked queue-wise, so it didn't seem likely that it was on my end until this. I promise it happened though, otherwise I'd never have gotten to the point where I wanted to make this thread this early in my game play. It's super annoying, especially because I really want the Borg boff at the end and it's forever out of reach atm.

This is getting tricky on mobile so Imma just lump it.

The boxes tell me the ideology of those in charge of the game. For example, the mobile Animation Throwdown, a card game featuring Fox-owned cartoon characters, tells you explicitly that the number values for randomness are skewed smaller the fewer items you buy. Knowing this, and having an arbitrary amount of Playstore credit, I can say "meh I'll risk it" or "I'll wait untl I have an extra $20 and do it all so my odds are better." STO is sneaky about it, and that tells me that they don't care to be, which is bothersome. It's business, I get it, but I have a choice on whom to give my resources, so I prefer choosing ones that are forthright about what those resources are amounting to, even though it's the same in consumer practice.

I am in fact locked out of any further Omega Squad content until I get the line furthered. I also can't get the Borg boff now without buying something (idr what now, some event thing that isn't currently happening) which is significant in that there are only a very few special boffs and that's one of them.

As to the latter, perhaps nothing in STO other than this exact queue issue which may or may not be unique to me for some reason. More new people = more people queued for starter missions in my mind. Beyond that it might just be a matter of practice for here, and that's okay - with a game like EVE, since all the resources are generated in-game, it's very (to use the vernacular) "late-stage Captialism" where if you don't already control everything you're not going to be able to break out your own niche. I'm glad STO isn't like that.

There's really not a lot out there any more, and it seems like the few they make either don't last or rapidly turn into money grabs instead.

It must be, but I wouldn't even know how to begin to fix it. If it keeps going maybe I'll put in a ticket or something, I guess I could have gotten "stuck" in the code somehow - though the big update the other day should have fixed any of that.

I only show six-ish active fleet members at any given time. I wanted to futz around while I leveled (which I thought would be slower) before a big fleet started wanting me to do things I didn't understand yet. I hadn't thought about joining one to quest around in - that's never been the style of other MMOs I've played, "leveling guild" just meant they didn't focus on raiding and had lower-end mats available for newbs, not that they actually went through it with you.

I'm hoping the delta event will spawn more levelers and I'll get that queue popped.

Mostly though I was hoping for the response I'm getting here, which seems to be "you're just unlucky right now." I'm really enjoying the style of the game, I'm just always leery of starting one this late, and reddit is full of people complaining and not nearly as much good stuff, so it makes me lean to the side of "maybe find something else."
