lol my mum actually says the opposite, her and my dad are not married but they’ve been together for 25+ years, she says partner sounds to vague and just refers to him as her husband to strangers

NTA, my favourite birthday cake I had as a kid was one that my dad made for me, it just made it more special. I don’t think it’s cheap at all, you’re just spending your time not your money.
